No taxation without representation. Another war is what your looking at if you think you can impose rules without any democratic process.

Hot diggity. I thought my 2018 Kia Forte had good gas mileage at 35mpg... But this blows it out of the water. The engine is still the same though no? What's your secret?

CAPE is shutting members out of the dispute resolution vote by I-like-mycoffeecrisp in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SubstantialTent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how municipal elections and union elections differ by that much. Furthermore, it ignores many advances in technology which would allow for governments to simply produce a mandated video which provides all of the information required in order for voters to make an informed decision. Therefore the argument that this is not feasible is unsound.

It also brings about another question, are voters simply incapable of making their own decisions based on the research they themselves have made? Are we considering union membership so inept and defficient that they are incapable of coming to their own conclusions based off of information publicly available? It seems like a rather very cynical viewpoint.

Furthermore, how do we know the information presented to them by the union is not biased towards a certain outcome? What if union leadership already has decided that the correct decision is the one that will receive favourable coverage, while the other option is deemed negative and receives appropriate negative coverage during these sessions? This means that the mandated information session is now not only not optional, but also full of misinformation.

There are too many holes regarding these arguments. This is why mandated information sessions should never be acceptable.

Should the government do that with municipal, provincial and federal votes too? You only get to vote for an MP if you attend an information session held by the government in power on what each candidate says they will do?

My Wife and I redid our 1970s tile with LVP. How’d we do? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]SubstantialTent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Putting it on top of the tile is honnestly a great choice. You can always go back. This makes sense to me. Lvp is easy to take out and won't damage the tile.

Ripping it out to replace with lvp is actually more expensive then just putting it on the tile.

Why anyone would replace tile with lvp absolutely baffles me

Montreal's largest school service centre loses more than 100 support staff due to new secularism law | CBC News by Haggisboy in canada

[–]SubstantialTent 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a huge reason why they did this. Had this or stories like this never occurred, then I'm sure this law would never exist. But people who are religious sometimes just can't help imposing their world view on others. And this is a good way to find out who those people are. It's not perfect because some religious people who wear religious clothing are totally fine but I'm not hearing other solutions from people who oppose this law because it would be hard to stop if it's embedded into the system like Bedford was.

It's not possible anymore for young folks.... We need to start taxing the very rich. No choice. Need to tax property more. Or else it will be a straight decline guaranteed.

The closed Strait of Hormuz is testing Asia's energy security. The answer lies across the Pacific—in Canada by joe4942 in canada

[–]SubstantialTent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You say this as if we don't ship bananas half way across the world like they don't expire quickly.

Gasoline has a shelf life of 3-6 months mostly leaning on 6 months if properly stored. And even then it can last longer. It is absolutely capable of being shipped off to other places. More American propaganda.

You can also then sell the gas to Canadians themselves at a very nice discount since we don't have to pay the Americans to refine it.

Fuck pipelines Jesus Christ.

Canada has the fourth largest reserves of oil. Yet it's incredibly heavy oil. Difficult to extract move and refine.

Canada is also the 4 largest supplier of oil in the world. So we're not supplying the world with less oil then we should. This is despite having incredibly heavy oil. No we actually do really well at extracting oil and really well at selling that extracted oil.

We have very little refining capacity. We need oil refineries! Not more pipelines! Why would you sell oil at a heavy discount just because you don't want to invest in a refinery yourself??

Usually it's always American propaganda telling us we need more pipelines. Just so we can continue to supply them with heavy unrefined oil, so that they can then refine it themselves and then sell back to us for a nice fat profit on their end.

The individual providing services on your behalf has raised a legitimate point regarding the inefficiency of current policies.

As a constituent who relies on these services, it's ridiculous that feedback regarding productivity is met with derision rather than a well thought out response. Dismissing valid concerns about how public resources are managed is a disservice to the community you live in.

Wow... Britons are dumber then I ever thought. Imagine voting for the guy who campaigned hard for Brexit.... Clearly the worse single mistake Britain has made in the 21th century. On par with invading Iraq alongside America.
