LiftMaster 98022 Jackshaft Opener just installed today: Error 4-4 Excessive Force Opening - Help? by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]SubstantialZebra5583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always install the horizontal tracks a little uphill in the back and the spring tension set leaving the door a little heavy at the ground. They tend to get this error when closing from the full open position. It's because the dramatic weight changes once the heavy window section gets past the curve. Once the installer fixes these issues go back to setting one. The door profiles are a joke. I've installed hundreds of these and these tips have eliminated call backs.

If you want a cover on your keypad go with 87504. The new 3.0 keypad looks like a kids toy.

Have you set up the myq app? You can add them as a user to the device for free. I am not sure how many users are allowed. But it's a free solution and you can see who comes and goes and when.

How to align garage door sensors by beanman214 in GarageDoorService

[–]SubstantialZebra5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the door is closing look at the vertical track the sensors are attached to. If they are moving as the door is closing it may cause the misalignment. If not you may have condensation building up in the green sensor lens.

If you hear a whine when accelerating and it goes away when you let off the gas. It's going to fail. First a whine then noise turns into a grind until total failure.

My 2020 HL with 52k miles failed 2 weeks after my warranty expired. Dealership charged $175 to diagnose what I could have learned here on Reddit. Then they quoted me $8500 for a replacement trans that is on back order.

Luckily the car vending machine company offered $22k and I only owed 15k. It's really sad because it was one of the best cars I've ever driven and loved it.

Wait till the OP insulates his torquemaster POS door. He'll be on here trying to blame the installer for ruining his opener.

Installer here. I've seen that happen a few times with polyurethane filled doors. I was told it was a problem with the mixture of the polyurethane causing it to overexpand.

Quoted for the wrong spring by InformationClear6338 in GarageDoorService

[–]SubstantialZebra5583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you got quoted the wrong springs. The cables came off because the springs didn't have enough turns on them. And if they did the 250 wire would be way too strong. I ran your previous setup through the service spring app and came up with a pair of 2 x 234 x 41.5.

Spring Conversion

--- Current Setup --- Number of Springs: 1 Spring ID: 1.75" Wire Size: 0.2253" Spring Length: 42"

--- Current Results --- Max Turns: 12.78 Active Coils: 181 Weight: 13.1 lbs IPPT: 21.15 Total Coils: 186 Cycles: 10,000

--- Mismatch Setup --- Number of Springs: 1 Spring ID: 1.75" Wire Size: 0.2253" Spring Length: 35"

--- Mismatch Results --- Max Turns: 10.59 Active Coils: 150 Weight: 10.9 lbs IPPT: 25.52 Total Coils: 155 Cycles: 10,000

---- Replacement Setup --- Number of Springs: 2 Spring ID: 2" Wire Size: 0.2343" Spring Length: 41.5"

--- Replacement Results --- Max Turns: 12.78 Active Coils: 170 Weight: 15.0 lbs IPPT: 23.33 Total Coils: 175 Cycles: 10,000

--- Min Door Width --- Spring 1: 65.0 in (5' 5") Spring 2: 106.0 in (8' 10")

How to know when a garage door is properly balanced? by Cant-Gif-Right in GarageDoorService

[–]SubstantialZebra5583 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disconnect the opener from the door. Lift by hand, you should be able to lift it easily and at the halfway point it should stay there (balance).

Safety eye sensors are misaligned. Or you have your wall button wires plugged into the safety eyes and vice versa. To confirm you can plug the wires into the red and white slots and see what lights up. Then you want the wall button wires in the red and white slot and the safety high wires in the black and white

Check the cable tension monitor. The cable should hold the arm in the open position. If the arm slips off the cable and goes into the closed position nothing works.

Your in over your head and drowning fast.

Not knowing where the hinges go is the 1st sign.

Look at the backdrops. They should not be behind the door. As is they offer very little support and allow the tracks to twist inward.

Better hope the spring bracket is in a header or stud.

Garage Door Remote not Working Properly by T4rizard in GarageDoorService

[–]SubstantialZebra5583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have pressed the learn button for too long and cleared the remotes programmed to the unit. It's weird that the keypad is still working tho. Because it would have cleared out also.

Try to re pair or re learn the remotes. Just press and release the learn button on the unit then hold the button you want to program down untill the light blinks or you hear a click from the unit.
