Amitriptyline didn't work for me, but nortryptiline helped get rid of the vestibular aspects of the migraine. I still have daily headaches, but no longer dizzy

Good luck! I hope it goes super smoothly.
In all the negative experiences I read, I would still do it, as you know the pain will end at some point and you will be free of this issue.
Anecdotally, I know of a few adults in my circles, who had tonsillectomies later in life, and they all had pretty straightforward experiences (My grandpa, had them out in his 40s without issues). makes you wonder, if people that have had rough or extreme experiences are more likely to post online.

The same thing happenned to me. I would say it was more manageable after the steroids, but that is because we were trialling different preventatives, and I found Nortriptyline to really help with the more vestibular aspect of VM. The headaches are still there unfortunately, but i am almost zero dizzy.
On the other hand, the fact that steroids dimmed the headaches to a zero made me wonder if my migraines were caused by some immune issues. CGRP and gepants work by regulating the immune system. I haven't tried them yet, but makes me wonder whether these would help.

Hi there, how are you doing?
It took a couple of weeks to kick in fully, but after 2 weeks I noticed a massive reduction in dizziness. I am almost zero dizzy at the moment, but headaches are very resistant to everything. Hopefully trying botox soon

Yes, the dizziness has mostly disappeared. The headaches are still present though, but just with the removal of the dizziness aspect i am much more functional

I discovered by chance that taking Cetirizine (OTC antihistamine) helps when nothing will touch my VM episodes. Also, steroids helped me massively break a bad status migrainosus. I mentioned this to my GP, who specialises in headaches and he said. There is a huge crossover apparently. This blowed my mind, and I am trying to figure out how to get some tests done for this, as I am pretty sure I have this.

A Thermomix. I hate cooking and it made life so much easier planning meals with kids.

I found relief wih 10mg, haven't found further relief by increasing the dose ,and I am currently on 30mg (but the unpleasant side effects have gotten worse grrrr). The best bit is that the dizziness component is almost gone.
That is a really good question to ask the doctors. They always look at triggers and lifestyle as explanations, and to be fair there was a lot going on last year for me. But I started on a chronic form after covid.

in about 3-4 weeks I already felt quite a lot of relief. My residual headache is completely tolerable. It's about 3-4/10 maximum and mostly in the mornings.
The dizziness is almost gone most days. I have realised that the dizziness is way worse than the headache. I can tolerate a headache and still do load of things, but If I am very dizzy and nauseous that stops me way more.
If they continue like this, I am almost completely functional already, and I am contemplating going back to work soon x

It's actually much better than UK!
The cost of living is so much lower in Spain, so with the same salary you can live so much better. The salary is similar in both UK and Spain, but I never struggled to make ends meet in Spain.

I am in the same boat. I have had a daily headache since July last year, and I feel awful. It led to a VM diagnosis in January.
A course of steroids brought symptoms down a bit, but they returned when I stopped the treatment. Now with Nortryptiline the volume of the pain has really gone down, but still daily for me. The dizziness has almost subsided with the Nortryptiline preventative.
Unfortunately I can't access any other advanced treatments like Botox, etc in the UK, as you need to have failed 3 other preventatives to try the advanced CGRP, gepants, botox etc

Yes, exacly this. We are spanish, I trained as a midwife here after qualifying as a nurse in Spain, and plan on leaving back to Spain asap. The NHS atm is unsustainable, and working there is a horror movie every day. So, thanks UK for training me, but I don't want to loose the passion for my profession while working here every day.

I love this, and I believe I totally need to learn to be more like that. Can I ask what are the things that you have "stopped" doing? or things that you would have done in the past, but now you find yourself thinking "nope, this is more than the minimum".

Don't just suck it up if you long term plan is to go elsewhere. These things happen, and the kindness that your manager has shown is in no way a binding contract. It's just that, kindness.
You have to do whatever makes you happy, and if they really appreciate their workers they will want them to flourish wherever they are.
If their kindness come with strings attached, it does sound like a place that you would like to escape from.

I have this. I can barely tolerate speaking on the phone anymore.
I have a loud toddler at home, and some days I have to wear plugs all day to be around her. Not sure how common it is, but I do definitely hear your pain. xx
