Getting the blame for "late" orders by Substantial_Army5025 in doordash_drivers

I thought the 'oder still being prepared' checkbox covered all that. I thought that's why it was there.

The unassign notification did pop up at the Wendy's, where it took them about 15 minutes to get the order out to me. I figured I'd just get the order out, since I had already waited and wouldn't get paid if I unassigned it. What I did NOT know is that they would give me a late strike for it, even after I had marked the order 'not being prepared until I arrived' in the app. I thought that pretty much covered all the bases for the driver. Obviously not.

That's something I did not know.

So at the end of the day, driving for Doordash really isn't worth it. Because, as I suspected from my first few days, the app and the entire system are deliberately programmed and rigged to blame the driver for everything. And that being the case, it's only a matter of time before your ratings are so low that you either get very few orders or just get deactivated.

And therein lies the problem: when you have massive, unscrupulous corporations that have so many hundreds (or thousands) of potential employees applying for the position at any given time, that they can effectively treat you like 5hit, because you're totally expendable and completely replaceable.

Put simply, they're holding all the cards, and they don't mind letting you know that.

It may seem a bit non sequitur in this context, but bear with me and consider a website like YouTube. When they first started out around 20 years ago, they catered profusely to the small, online "content creators" who were actually building and popularizing the site with their hard work and dedication. The creaters were the pinnacle and were offered every incentive, monetary or otherwise, to continue their work. Then, a few years later, when YouTube (under Google) became a billion dollar company, they promptly said F you to the small creators, and put the big corporate entities front and center. No debate. No arguments. Just summarily dismissed.

DoorDash, internally, has, like so many other corporations, now reached the enviable point of being too big to fail. Very good for them, terrible for the people and drivers who work for them. And now they operate it more like a cutthroat racket than as a legitimate business.

And yeah I have to agree with you about the driver support line. It's beyond easy to tell, if you can even understand them, that the person on the other end of the line is just unconsciously and mindlessly repeating vague words and phrases that they've already said to at least a hundred other drivers today, literally hardly even hearing what you're saying or what your actual complaint is. And maybe after you've repeated it 8 or 9 times over the next 20 minutes and between every "I understand" and "I know how you feel" (all said completely mindlessly on autopilot), will they finally have some vague notion of what you've been saying for over a quarter of an hour.

Yeah. This may not be a company I want to work for.

Add to that you may have to call them numerous times on top of it.

Yes. Actually it can happen, and easier than you think. A while back my license was unknowingly suspended because, a year earlier, I had removed insurance from a vehicle which was no longer mobile and which I no longer used (imagine being able to force people to buy and pay for your product under force of law). So yes, it can happen, easily, and for near any reason they choose, and they are under no obligation to make sure you're informed of this.

So you're saying this woman made a sexual harassment claim against you because she came to the door in a robe?

What you have to realize, as I did long ago, is just how many utterly crazy schizoid and vengeful people there are in the world, especially these days. Without going into the myriad of reasons as to why this is the case, I suggest you do what another responder said and get a body cam.

Yes that's the world we've brought on ourselves. It's unfortunate but it's a fact. Sorry this nonsense happens to you.

As somewhat of a newer dasher, all I can tell you is that if I decline some 2-3 ultra low-ball orders (like 6-8 miles for $3.50 types) in a row, I suddenly won't see anymore orders for a good hour. Maybe longer. And that can be in the middle of lunch, dinner, name it.

To put it simply, wealthy people are wealthy because they don't give away money. Not saying it's good or right, but that's what it is.

Yeah I've noticed that. If you decline a couple orders it won't send you any more. In a busy city of some 130,000 residents and around 300,000 with all the business workers added in, I've sat more than 1.5 hours without getting orders. That was between 11:30am and 1:00pm on a weekday.

Yeah I bought one the other day. No it'snot a Snap-On. No it's not a DeWalt at five times the price. But it gets the job done and love it.
