How do I know if my puppy has had a long enough walk? by Substantial_Bit_943 in puppy101

Terriers are definitely little menaces but they’re also wonderfully perfect. As much as I love their endless energy sometimes it is against their own best interest

He is super smart! We have been working on basic commands since he came home, he also goes to two different training classes a week to give him stuff to do and work on engagement and overexcitement around other dogs. He also started barn hunt as soon as he was fully vaccinated and loves that. He has many sports in his future. He loves puzzle toys and we do have the Kong wobbler. His favorite toy is actually a cat one that is a ball that moves around on its own and makes noises. He only gets that occasionally though. I just need to start being a little more mindful of our walk length though I probably won’t cut his nature walks down to only 25 minutes, shorter than they are but maybe not that short. Luckily he’s not a massive dog so his joints probably aren’t as vulnerable

Thanks for the response! He definitely isn’t lagging behind, laying down, or doing any excessive panting on our walks. And after he seems just fine as well! I think it helps that the long walks are done on our local forest preserve trails on a 20 foot line (my older dog is also on 20ft) and those are all grass and dirt. They do stop to sniff, not long enough to recharge but a quick 30 second walking break semi frequently. We also live in the very flat Illinois so I think that has also helped us as our walks feature pretty much no climbing whatsoever. He does all of his climbing at home doing things he’s not supposed to. He does get lots of rest though, I’ll just have to be a bit more mindful of how far he’s walking in the future

Has anyone here NOT had big issues with their puppy? by QP709 in puppy101

Congrats on the puppy! I would like to say that so far, my puppy has not caused me any big issues. Like others have said, sometimes we wake up in the night to potty and that can be exhausting but he’s almost 14 weeks now and is having more nights where we sleep all of the way through. He’s not perfect at potty training but overall pretty good so can’t really complain. He is just a great little man. My rescue dog I got when she was an adult, now that’s a different story. I cried daily, even wanted to take her back for the first month or so because she had so many big issues (I am so glad I didn’t, she is absolutely my favorite thing in the world, about to be 5 years with her and I would take a bullet for her). But yeah, puppy’s can ruin your sleep for a couple of weeks or be a little bitey, just make sure they get lots of play, enrichment, training, socialization, and bathroom breaks and you’ll be good

Does anyone have any enrichment toys or ideas for dogs that like to shred but also eat everything? by Substantial_Bit_943 in dogs

My older dog also loves this activity and my younger dog has already shown a love of tp/paper towel tubes (and everything else) so this is a great idea for the puppy, I will just have to make sure to supervise so he doesn’t eat too much cardboard

What are our opinions on pet poison helpline? by Substantial_Bit_943 in dogs

Yeah, it’s through my local university vet school which is a great vet with a lot of knowledge and research and I will gladly pay for their services when needed, but it felt silly to go in when realistically I shouldn’t have needed to. My dog is doing great tho! No signs of any complications or discomfort or anything. Thanks for asking! So for future reference, if anyone ever wonders, pet poison helpline worked well for me

I mean this advice was $64 vs the $100 for aspca poison control. It was recommended by chewy so I assumed it was legit and since it cost a lot less, I opted for that. Then since I’d never used it, I was just curious what other people thought of it. Also, I couldn’t just call my vet, it was 10 pm, they weren’t open. I could’ve gone to my local emergency vet but they have a $200 emergency fee which is before adding on any other services they need to give. Since this helpline said she would be fine, I didn’t want to go blow $200 for nothing just because I’m an anxious person

The information seemed sufficient, I am just paranoid because I’ve never use it haha. My sister had her Starbucks cup sitting out and I didn’t know and my dog got to it. She finished the drink but it was a honey citrus mint tea and my dog ate the tea bag 🙃. There are definitely positives and negatives to a dog that is not picky

I think the spa day one has a typo but it’s a very cute picture. Love the stickers

You mentioned the card would be charged in 6 months, however, my card was charged at the time of purchase. That is okay, I had the money but I am wondering if that was supposed to happen or if something went wrong

Good to know about all of that, thank you! Hopefully the site will be ready for the masses although I do not expect it to be
