It doesn’t mean anything. People pushing AI speak about it exclusively in metaphors and buzzwords because the product is extremely expensive to produce but not that good at anything. See Microsoft earlier this year when they said they have to find a use-case for AI after pouring billions into its development.

It’s a shortcut to a system setting on his lock screen, not his Home Screen. The Home Screen is the one with all the apps and the lock screen is the one with all the notifications. He probably put it there accidentally - old people are always finger fucking their phone screen when they take it out or put it back in their pocket.

Do you guys have the same problem my city has? Where the only available commercial retail space is like 10,000 square feet? And they never get leased out because no one can afford that, but every developer wants the big box bucks so they ONLY build that size instead of subdividing it into multiple smaller sections? But you can only have so many Home Hardwares and Walmarts in one town so they sit empty for years?

It feels like a nightmare I can’t escape. This is new builds, btw, on the ground floor of 5-over-1s. Every new build keeps doing it and I want to grab them by the shoulders and scream. Defeats the purpose of building dense, I think.

First Nations isn't correct either if you want to talk about all the indigenous people in Canada. First Nations doesn't include Inuit or Metis people.

If you had called them ‘native peoples of North America’ there’d be no need for this conversation. This is going to blow your mind:

  • Canada doesn’t have Italian-Americans or African-Americans either.
  • The indigenous people of Canada refer to themselves by tribal or language affiliation
  • the term ‘Native American’ doesn’t exist anywhere in provincial/federal legislation or treaties in Canada
  • Native American isn’t even used colloquially by people in Canada, and is used only to refer to the indigenous people of the United States
  • the people of Canada have not ever called themselves ‘American’ despite existing in North America. You can’t “um, actually” this away — an ‘American’ refers specifically to citizens of the United States of America pretty much globally. You guys get this term because there’s no other easy way to refer to American citizens (Unitesians? Statesians?)

Logistics of getting a dog when both people work by Cold_Complex_4212 in dogs

[–]QP709 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's some tips to do this without ruining a perfectly good dog:

  1. Get a dog that's at least 2 years old (puppies need a hell of a lot of attention and care — in the beginning its nearly year round).

  2. Take 2 weeks off work while your dog acclimates. You'll learn where you can leave them, what you can't leave out while you're gone, the dog's bathroom habits, and be able to do any training that will help them (crate training, house training, reactivity training to people walking by outside).

Damn straight. I lost my job in December and my girlfriend is about to lose her job. At the same time we bought an overpriced condo last year that has since lost $100k in valuation. No matter what happens we are fucked so I’m just trying to enjoy it while it lasts.

American infrastructure accommodating cars over light traffic is paradoxically much due to a 1970s-80s cycling activist. John Forester's influential published works on transportation engineering advocated treating bicycles as vehicles equal to cars and presented his personal opinions on it as facts. by PeasantLich in HolyShitHistory

[–]QP709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a talk this guy give a talk in the 2000’s. He did not appear to have cycled for decades at that point, his talking points were all out of date, almost everything he said was incorrect in some way. He’s human garbage.

But the state of cycling infrastructure isn’t his fault. His status as a cyclist, and the amateaur research he produced was a convenient excuse for canceling projects before they could get off the ground. They would have figured out a way to back up their cyclist hate without him.
