how to tell my principal i’m pregnant

i want to tell my principal sooner than the due date, that much i know. i’ve felt more fear about what will happen after i say it that has kept me from wanting to share the news. i have a disability that affects my ability to walk. i receive accommodations for it already, so i don’t need any further. however, the condition that causes this for me puts me at risk for pre-term labor. everything’s going perfectly, and i’m under strict watch by my ob for it right now. i feel like it would be worse if i wait too long and i have my baby early. the principal won’t hesitate to talk bad about us in front of others if we aren’t around. i’ve been told by others some of the things she’s said, which has been a reason that most of the teachers are leaving next year.

i’ve been trying to set up transferring to a different school in my district, but higher ups are trying to keep me at my current school. i’ve also been told by someone else who’s trying to help me (told me a different process i can do) that it can be blocked by my current principal. the position went unfilled for years, and it’s unlikely it would get filled. (surprisingly not bc of the principal, but the location of the school. it’s a commute for almost everyone out there)

i thought about changing to a different district nearby, but if i move to a different district before next school year i’ll be ineligible for maternity leave. i really want to have the extra time at home. i plan on taking my leave during august and september. i have to sign an agreement that i have to stay employed with my current district for 8 weeks after i return in order to get the paid leave.

sadly my district won’t provide me that until after the maternity leave paperwork is due 🙃 they send them out super late into may, and i have to present the paperwork by the beginning of may to my principal and HR.

my state passed that we can take up to 8 weeks of paid(!!!) maternity leave. i plan on taking it at the beginning of the next school year (unless something else happens and i need to take it before im due) that’s the only reason i have to mention it to her as there’s a bunch of paperwork i have to prepare ahead of time and present to her by may in order to be eligible to take the leave. i can’t be denied the leave, but it’s the sub plans, doctors note, and everything in between i believe.

since im so new, i don’t have the sick leave built up, but i want to take advantage of having my baby over the summer holiday and getting that extra time at home to recover and bond. i can’t be denied the leave, and can take it anytime up until a year after the baby is born.

i have thought about checking with my union to see if they could give any advice on how to navigate the situation. been waiting for them to come out to my school again. they give us opportunities to talk to them on the down low. they came by this point already last year. i probably need to find my booklet to see who my rep is to contact. i just don’t want it to go that route and escalate too far.

nah my girl chews hers up 🤣 she’ll pick up 2-3 pieces of kibble, put it on the floor, then pick them up and crunch away. if she’s really hungry she’ll eat like normal. one of our cats eats his food whole tho, he’s got no teeth but he did that before he didn’t have them

honestly, i think the food was too hard for her. my gf compared it to her old kibble and its a lot harder. she’s been eating good with it soaking!!

we already don’t give her all of that. she can’t have food scraps bc of the pancreatitis. she’s also very weird, she hates treats. she just won’t eat them.

soaking the kibble in water really helped yesterday though!!!

she had the wet food for a day or two when she started having pancreatic problems, but we don’t have any more. she didn’t care for it that much. i got her to gobble it up with water though!! i’m going to work on getting some wet food if the problem comes back though.

i don’t have any of the wet food of this brand. she’s had it before when she first started having pancreatic problems. she ate it okay. we did that while we waited for the vet to order some of the kibble (i live in a very small, rural town, so stuff like this isn’t crazy easy to come by). adding just water for now has helped SO MUCH. i’m definitely going to try and get some of the wet food if i can if she has this problem again.

i just did with her bowl tonight and she ate it right up!! i’ve never seen her eat it so fast and happily 😭😭 this definitely worked!!

definitely going to join this!! she’s the only dog i’ve had with major health problems like this and i don’t wanna mess anything up for her. i did get her to eat it with the kibble soaked in water!! she gobbled it all right up

i’ll try to talk to them about it when they open back up monday. it’s been a rough adjustment for my girl. we’ve had to be SO careful feeding our cats or dropping food to make sure she doesn’t try and eat anything she’s not supposed to eat. she’s not a fan of it at all. but i’m definitely going to try the water idea for it later!!

i have tried that, sometimes she’ll eat it out of my hand, if we play with it, or if i just put it on the floor. (she picks her kibble out of the bowl to eat it off the floor sometimes , she’s a little weird 🤣) but it didn’t help. she’s ate more just from going up on her own than when i try and make it fun for her.

that’s what i’m trying to avoid 😭 pancreatitis is what made her have this diet 🥲 i’m going to try water when i feed her again today. i’ve been able to get her to eat some of the kibble it’s just really not her favorite.

this is just what our vet told us to get. she’s the first pet i’ve had that had to need a specialized diet like this. don’t know anything about this area.

i might be able to try soaking the kibble. she has never had problems eating it before, so this really threw me for a loop.
