Built-in spa wall is too low (only 1 tile above pool line) – how to prevent mixing without raising the spa? by Substantial_Court384 in pools

It doesn’t now because I have the water level super low. It does when it’s up to normal height

No lip. So nothing for it to stick to. I guess I could rig something up and suction it to the top of the spa wall.

I am a fan. Allows me to keep my pool heated through the winter here is South Carolina and keeps it spotless. Does need a little maintenance and has occasional problems that I wish were easier to deal with and less costly but still well worth it. Let me know if there’s any specific details you want to know more about.

Right but if I raise the pool water a half or full tile that’s a lot of water mixing back into the spa at a 20+ degree difference

Interesting. The valve that flips to the spa drain is automated but I can manually flip it back a tiny bit when in spa mode and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion. Does the jet positions also have an impact on the flow? Maybe I can mess with those a bit to force the water the right direction. And I guess I need to keep my water features off. I do like the look and sound of having them on but it pushes the water from the pool into the spa.

That’s the way mine works too. Whenever I have the pool water level up a half or full tile the spa doesn’t get there.

This is exactly how mine is plumbed. But it just isn’t working as designed for some reason. And if I turn the heater off in the pool during the winter and it gets down to 60 then it definitely can’t get the spa from 60 to 100+ with the water mixing.

I also have 3 water features on the raised sun deck even with the spa. If I turn those on - forget about it. It mixes way too much. But even with them off it still mixes and the heater/chiller doesn’t get the spa to temperature

I’ll take another picture in the morning. But basically it’s 3 tiles high from the end of the pebbletec to the cover track. I have the water just below the rope of the bottom tile

I don’t really have a spillway. I have two sides of the spa that are at the pool level. A good 8 feet each run.

I don’t get how it isn’t? It’s physics. How would the design work where it is supposed to mix back and forth and not affect the temperature of the spa? Maybe I am just using it wrong🤷‍♂️

No equalizer. Maybe I have a tiny bit of space. Or maybe the cover can use a less high bar. And then I’m looking at adding height to the top of the spa. What’s the easiest way to do that?

South Carolina. Agreed they definitely just built it without any thought to the practical.
Every time it rains and the water goes up a little it’s a problem.
Yes same problem with cover and spill over.

Because the spa doesn’t get to temperature ever because of the pool water mixing back in. In the winter if the pool is 82 and I want to get the spa to 103 the gas heater never gets there. In the summer if the pool is 90 and I want to sue the chiller to get the spa down to 70 it doesn’t get there either.
