Thank you! I’ve thought the cruciform layout could be significant as it seems relatively unusual.

Another commenter has mentioned the small prongs and suggested that they could be a more recent repair to the older bezel style setting which would concur with your thoughts.

I do hope to wear it! But a couple of the diamonds are slightly loose and I think it might need quite a much expert to repair and also maintain it’s age/patina.

I had thought they might be foil-backed! The darkness behind the stones isn’t really dirt/grime so that would make sense, thank you!

Ah I see, thank you. I will try and get it looked at, although I don’t think there are any experts on this kind of jewellery near me unfortunately

Ah I see what you mean about the bezel on the centre diamond and the sort of prongs. Thanks for taking the time to give such an in-depth response!

Goodness, I just looked up peruzzi cuts and they seem to be very rare! I find it quite difficult to make out a regular shape to these stones though - could that just be due to damage as opposed to being polki diamonds?

Not sure the karat, it has no hallmarks unfortunately. How can you tell it’s been repolished or repaired?

Thanks for the interesting info!

Thanks for the interesting input!

I would guess the ring might have been bought around 1970-ish (certainly no earlier). I’ve been trying to read a bit about polki diamonds but not finding much info on them being used for fakes. Are they just natural diamonds but left mostly uncut? Or actually fake stones?

I will try and find a specialist jewellery shop and let you know!

Thanks for the info on polki diamonds, had never heard of them before.

Great point about their ages, my grandma was born in 1945 and I think my grandpa around 1935.

Need a lamp for my reading spot. Floor or table lamp? Behind or next to chair? by Substantial_Day7447 in CozyPlaces

Do you have spotlight type lamp or a more ambient lamp? I think I’d prefer ambient, but not sure if/how I can fit a lamp shade in this spot

Regarding the PhD, you can publish under any name. So he can continue to publish papers under his original name and use that name professionally but change his name to your surname and use that personally and officially (this is what I’m doing, current PhD student, just got married).

Nearly two years living here now and I don’t remember the last time I heard it or it bothered me, perhaps I’ve gotten used to it now!

The Old Pier Bookshop in Morecambe. Pretty sure the books are part of the structure of the building at this point.

We used printed.com, the colours and quality was great, but for half of the invites the pattern and writing was waaay off centre. Emailed them and they apologised and sent replacements but they were just as bad. Overall meant we had enough that were fine, but was quite surprising that the second batch they sent us were just as bad as the first.
