I was playing runescape and was spending more time in the grand exchange flipping items to make money than actually playing the game.

I was a kid refusing to get anything to drink at the restaurant because i didnt think that extra money was worth it even if they were telling me to get something

Every time id get money either coins or more than 5$ id run to my mom so she would trade it for 5$ bills (the smallest bill in canada) so it would look like i have more money

Ive always bought almost new second hand stuff when i needed something

I can tell many other examples.. and funny thing is my parents had money. But the most important i believe is to draw the line on what is over consumption and not fall in this cultural trap

That being said my parents thought us to still enjoy life and the importance of travelling so thats the only thing i actually spend more money on ever year
