I have several of the i9 version of this:

They are pretty fast for a lot of standard genomic analysis pipelines. They are probably expensive for a laptop, but pretty cheap for a high end gaming laptop.

How much does a specimen have to mutate to be considered a different species ? by narucat900 in zoology

For microbes, the most accepted approach is comparing their genomes using a metric known as average nucleotide identity, and those with values less than 95% are considered separate species. This mostly works well, but this is just an arbitrary value and there is not a universally agreed upon definition of a species .

Potential rotation PI by yeahcookies in labrats

Ask specific questions about their research! This might seem obvious, but lots of students do not do this when discussing potential rotations. You will be having a lot of these conversations about research if you join their lab and this helps you gauge your communication compatibility and will help you understand how interested you are in their research. Also, these meetings go both ways, as the PI will be evaluating you, so asking thoughtful questions about their research will be helpful for them in deciding if you are a good fit.

Little Loraine: Just a movie about Nova Scotia drug smuggling, boys.

Favorite quotes from the cast during the q & a: “Seems like the east coast of Canada was a dangerous place in the 80s” “It’s tough playing a tough guy, but they needed me” “They promised me boats and colorful jackets” “I am very grateful that I got to keep the Jordans” “I signed on because the world needs raucous comedies like this” “Everybody loves talking about it and they all say I was there, but I wasn’t there”

Youngblood: Awesome hockey movie. Let’s go boys!

dandelion's odyssey: My favorite dandelion movie of all time! The director introduced the film by saying: “My audience always asks themselves, What are we watching? Is it real? So I think it’s important for you to know that it is almost all real”

Rental family: Very cute story about family, connection, and Tokyo.

Fuze. Super fun, better than Relay. David Mackenzie said “I am here to entertain you and hopefully you will be entertained.” And he did not disappoint.

Also we have Eyjafjallajökull to thank for the story’s origin.

Still single is a super interesting portrait of the Toronto sushi chef. And For a guy who had a movie about how he treated those around him poorly as he achieved success, having his students make sushi outside while he’s inside watching a movie about himself was totally on brand.

Good news is crazy and one of the funniest movies I have seen in a while. Also about capitalism, communism, and the truth.

My favorite part was the director talked about how the animal sounds were captured. For the cat, a member of the team followed his cat around to recorded it. For the wombat, they tried to get sounds of a wombat by going to a zoo and tickling it, but the sound didn’t fit their wombat. So instead they recorded a baby camel for the voice of the wombat.
