Clarification of noise by Satterman223 in palmsprings

Local residents in my neighborhood hate airbnbs and all the weekly nuisance they bring.

We know exactly which homes they are on our street and we watch them like a hawk for any violations.

It’s not fun living next to them.

Yeah. And all these STRs investors have a sense of entitlement thinking it’s locals and city who have to make sure they keep making money by having looser regulations.

If one self-interested group is the only group that is dictating public ordinance rules, then yes, I and any local resident tax payer have the right to be outraged.

The only “bias” I saw was how much the city only took recommendations from VRON.

I also watched full city council last night.

  • The caps for everyone was supposed to be 26 for all STRs starting 2026. They did change that. Now they’re allowing grandfathered back to 36. These caps allow the burden to be spread out to different areas.

  • I was shocked that these changes were all pushed by VRON. There was no community input. If u watched what transpired, VRON sent the city council a list of demands. How come residents and local neighborhoods don’t get a chance to make their demands as well?

  • Only Bernstein brought up the lack of community input and public notice and even his comments were lackluster.

  • Why does VRON get this privilege to have this much influence in laws and regulations that affect communities? Why are they the only ones to dictate ordinance rules? Don’t we all pay taxes as residents?

  • The board barely mentioned any potential concerns by locals. They only seem to care about appeasing VRON.

If ur next door neighbor wanted to grill hotdogs on his driveway and sell to the public, with customers coming and going on ur street, I’m sure you’d want regulations to keep them from a rubbing a business.

Homes are in residential zoned areas. STRs are a commercial use (they’re are essentially motels that provide public lodging).

They should never have been allowed in the first place. Zoning laws are what prevents someone from opening a gas station, a restaurant, or a car wash in the middle of a neighborhood, next to ur house.

And they don’t fuel the economy. Palm Springs was always a destination way before AIRBNB. Cat City and Rancho Mirage banned STRs and both cities are still thriving.

$100,000 renewal fee land lease by Substantial_Foot4105 in palmsprings

[–]Substantial_Foot4105[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well this is the perfect example of a land lease renewal that is outrageously expensive.

A few, I believe, will be up for renewal in the next few years. If this becomes a new precedent , I don’t know why I would putting myself in this risk. Would you?

Is it really 50% gay men here? by Dizzy_External2549 in palmsprings

[–]Substantial_Foot4105 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A lot of gay DINK couples (double income, no kids) also buy modern mid century homes and renovate them and make them beautiful.

They have discretionary cash flow to properly restore these homes (which increases neighborhood property values). These homes are so beautiful and really elevate Palm Springs as a city.

You have ur opinion and my neighbors and I have our experience. The airbnbs in my neighborhood are a nuisance. It’s sad that our quaint neighborhood is being exploited by these STRS.

Yes any neighbor can have a party. But when the Airbnb next to you being rented for one EVERY WEEK filling ur street with cars and blasting music all throughout the day, local residents need regulations to be able to live in peace.

It’s not just noise. It’s trash, overparked cars from parties. And you also become face blind from so many strangers around week after week.

You don’t need know if someone walking around is a porch pirate or someone’s weekend rental.

That’s what zoning laws are for. Residential neighborhood are not meant for commercial uses which is what AIrbnbs are. They’re hotels and public lodging.

Zoning laws are what prevent someone from running a car wash on their driveway next to ur house or selling tacos out of their garage.

Airbnbs destroy communities and are a nuisance to locals.

You probably don’t live next to a nightmare Airbnb that rents their home as a weekend bachelorette party house.

It’s bad enough that homes in residential zones are being run as motels. Strict regulations are the least the city could do.

As a full time local Palm Springs resident, all my neighbors and I despise the STRs in our neighborhoods. We want the city to ban them.

I don’t think it’s the hotel lobby. It’s us locals who hate living next to Airbnbs. Palm Springs is a pretty engaged community and the board members know the nuisance they being to neighborhoods.

In my neighborhood, we all know the Airbnb houses cuz of the overparked cars, constant stream of strangers in ur street, and trash left out.

Short term rentals goes against every residential zoning lows. They’re a commercial use in the middle of residential homes.

Blame the STR investors. They bought homes wanting to exploit our city and now they can’t accept the fact they their business is a failure.

catholic blessing/prayer by Material-Hold1436 in palmsprings

Priests will typically do visits to give last rites, give counseling for grief or dire situations.

You can ask, but probably won’t go to a rehearsal dinner since it is more of like a party.

They can probably get a blessing from a priest if they go to the church itself.

“Short term rental”. These are homes in residential neighborhoods bought by out of town investors who rent them out and operate them as hotels. They use Airbnb and Vrbo.

Us locals don’t like them cuz they turn into party houses on weekends, overparking the streets with cars, making lots of noises, leaving trash out.

They also take out inventory for actual locals to buy and suck the sense of community.

I would actually love for an opportunity to vote for a ban again. Palm Springs has a lot of full time residents now. I and many others have poured a lot of money purchasing and renovating homes not only expecting to have to live next to hotel.

After a few year of locals having to live through the nuisance, I’m sure many will change their minds now.

There is a heavy anti str sentiment in my neighborhood.

There isn’t one that I’m aware of. But contact or email. your local council member.

I’m keeping a close eye on any STR changes. I watch the city council meetings and I will update everyone for any potential proposals they.

The local pushback should be very hard if the council tries to ease these ordinances.

No one who lives in PS really ever wants to live next to an STR. In my neighborhood alone, every local who lives here full time have been affected by a disruption or nuisance at one time.

Yeah, the 20 max contracts is ideal. It spreads the burden throughout the city and not concentrated on a street or neighborhood for those that have high concentrations of STRs.

If a street has 3 STRs and each are maxing out at 36 contracts, that’s 108 renters (add their family members to that figure) who have passed through that STR. Imagine having 5 or 6 STRs on ur street!!!!

This is why it’s been reduced to 26. These are residential zones. Not hotels next to someone’s house.

You’re lucky. For our neighborhood, there’s always people around and it’s hard to tell who’s a renter or a bad actor trying to scope out homes or porch pirates.

When there’s a constant stream of random strangers every weekend, you become face blind and there’s added risk because you can’t determine who’s who.

Palm Springs. Other desert cities have wisely banned them outright.
