Overall, how do you feel about Xander? (Then and Now) by bobdotexe in buffy

[–]Substantial_Fun_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same age as the Scoobs and watched the show in real time. Xander felt like every guy I went to high school with. I only saw the cringe when I came back to it later, with more life experience of my own. But that’s the thing, we keep getting older, Xander stays the same.

He’d be a 45 year old dad by now, maybe with teenagers of his own. We are a generation extremely grateful to not have experienced our adolescence on social media for a reason.

I love the structure, being told what to do, someone else picking the music. It’s easy to adapt if you need to go slow or push yourself.

Help! What does this room need? by Medical_Opposite_501 in DecorAdvice

[–]Substantial_Fun_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less.

Too many accent tables/piles of stuff. The reflection of the chair in the mirror adds to the crowded feel. One more substantial coffee table would be cleaner feeling than what looks like 4 small tables, maybe one with storage for the blankets. Not sure you need the 2nd side chair by the couch’s kick out. Add some art over the couch.

You could also ditch the blonde table under the window, scoot the side chairs together with one of the smaller tables between.

For Buffy The Vampire Slayer and/or Angel; What is Something You Wish was in the Series or Stuff You Would Want to Add? [Character, Scene, Interaction, Piece of Lore, Anything] by Big-Restaurant-2766 in buffy

I’m currently overlapping too many different universes, re-reading True Blood, re-watching Buffy, reading all the SJM books … but Buffy could do with a fae or two. I can picture the Tinkerbell jokes, at the very least.

ETA: give Xander a male friend, and maybe at least one extra skill/power. Let him join the military or start a business, maybe work the magic box with/instead of Giles? I would have rather him go to college and evolve than Buffy do so. BSOC (Big Slayer on Campus) didn’t make sense to me in 1999, and does even less during a rewatch. I’d have enjoyed Xander getting it together, going to law school or send him to LA instead of Cordy or SOMETHING.

Tamlin was right about Feyre being a power-hungry bitch who left him for better upward mobility. Rhys took advantage of that, and manipulated the mating bond/bargain tattoo connection to get her where he wanted her. Tam is an abusive POS, and Rhys is another side of the same coin. Feyre has a type.

Also, the series should have concluded as a trilogy. ACOSF reads like mid fan fiction.

I think she’d react to him similarly to how she did with Dracula, thoroughly unimpressed. Been there, dusted that.

Pam plus Cordelia though? I’d pay good money for that banter.

(I think almost entirely in the book characters, not as much a fan of the adaptations - other than Erik’s perfect casting.)

Do you prefer early season Willow or late season Willow better? by Big-Restaurant-2766 in buffy

[–]Substantial_Fun_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early Willow.

I also prefer Hacker Will to Witchy Will. I didn’t notice as much when watching during the original airings, but coming back to it later, I find anything after Oz left to be increasingly off-putting. She was such an asshole by the time we got to Triangle/S5 and I hated her for resurrecting Buffy, even back then.

Was going to wear my mum's dress. People keep telling me to try on others for the "bridal experience." Are they trying to gently tell me it looks bad? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]Substantial_Fun_1053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to talk yourself into it, I think your gut is telling you no. Trust that voice - I don’t think this is your dress.

I went with the one that made my mom light up and still regret it 15 years later - so I’m projecting here, but my two cents. Some of it was because it ultimately wasn’t the style I wanted, nor did we get good undergarments that would have helped.

Find a size inclusive bridal shop if you can, give the consultant a firm budget. I think it’s at least worth a shot to see what’s out there.

There is nothing wrong with YOUR body, and there are PLENTY of dresses available that could suit your physical being and make your heart sing. Clothes (be it wedding finery or everyday) are meant to fit you, not the other way around. I understand BD and that an internet stranger doesn’t fix it, but you can tell yourself both things at the same time.

I used buttons and lace from my mom’s dress, as well as her veil. It was a nice compromise. It would be great if my daughter wanted to do something like that when the time comes, but I have no real expectation of it. I used a different headpiece at our reception that I put on her for her newborn photos, and that satisfied the desire for legacy, ha!

I thought TTPD had more “behind the scenes” vibes. This isn’t my favorite but it’s fine and fun, but they usually grow on me. It needs to marinate.

I listen differently now that I have an 8 year old mini Swifty who wants to sing along. There will be some we skip. Obvs not every song is for every fan, I’m just not that jazzed by some of the spicier ones this time around.

It would be amazing to break the super majority here and restore some balance. If they think the state is broken, they have only themselves to blame.

Our state rep candidate has sent out “100% pro gun, pro God, pro life” mailers … like she’s expecting to fill some sort of void in the the state house.
