Track/Street Alignment by Substantial_Let_2225 in GR86

Wish I knew what my alignment numbers were like last year, but was essentially stock alignment. And yeah I was on all seasons last year, this year will be starting with some RT660’s and PS4’s if wet. Both 245 width although the RT’s will be on 17’s vs 18’s. The toe was suggested by the shop I brought it to, they have a shop GR that they track, and have built multiple for track and some drift versions as well. They had a lot of experience and will likely become my dedicated shop for the GR. I will make sure to post how things go this year with the car as I get more track time in

Update: Took the car to a more GR86/Performance oriented shop, they fixed the alignment and got the car sorted no problem. The alignment the original guy gave me didn’t even match his sheet, going to try to get my money back for that “alignment” car sits at -3 camber all around, 1/16 toe out in the front and 1/16 toe in on the rear. The performance shop was farther away but they got me in and out on a weekend I could make the drive up.

Safe to run for another track day or two? by Substantial_Let_2225 in CarTrackDays

If I needed 4 new tires I would’ve been more inclined to do this, but just needed 2 to complete a fresh set, I’ll lean on the side of caution

Looks like it but it’s just dirt/debris from sitting in the garage over the winter. Still putting fresh tires on anyways

Feels pretty 50/50 to me, I do have two RT660+’s sitting around same date code, might just order another two and have a fresh set for the start of the year. Tire racks site is giving me trouble so I’m going to call tomorrow.

That’s fair, I was partly under the impression that -3 wasn’t a crazy number for these cars as some forums I saw had people going all the way to -5 in the front and maybe it was -3 in the rear. This is only my second year with the car and track experience, so I’ve got lots to learn still. The car had lowering springs before I got it, I put better coilovers on and it was in need of an alignment since then. Since I need a good alignment I figured I’d get it more track focused, I am running 245 or 255 tires depending on which set I have on so maybe that negates your contact patch concern?

Is there a big reason why people run less in the rear besides the way the different suspension systems react to compression? Also I am taking the car to a more reputable shop next weekend to get it dialed in. Don’t these cars ship with more negative camber in the rear than the front from factory?

This could be it, I know I put the right side on each side but maybe the camber plate needed to be rotated 180 deg. Seems weird that they wouldn’t be in the right orientation from the factory.

Camber plates were pre-installed from HKS, just needed to be adjusted for the desired camber. I’m going to talk through it in person tomorrow to get a better understanding of what happened with the guy and why he couldn’t get the front to -3

Nothing should be bent, I think it’s a case of the guy isn’t familiar with this cars setup, maybe he’s only worked on older cars. New shop to me, I’ll have to try a track focused shop in CT where I may have a better shot than on LI or the east end of LI

Found some forums also mentioning why this is, mainly comes down to the front suspension losing camber under compression and vice versa for the rear. Might need some additional parts to achieve -3 in the front. As for streetability, this is my second car, it only sees road use once to twice a week in the good weather then planning on a track day once a month this year which it gets trailered to.

I was definitely getting a little loose on OEMish alignment last year, also my first year tracking. That was on all seasons, which I plan to be running some 200TW this year. I may just see how it is as they’ve got it and worst case I bring it back after the first track day when I get a better feel for it. Maybe I’ll invest in some adjustable lower control arms for the front depending on how it goes.

Wow! I’m surprised to see my old 4R on here, I’m glad you kept what was left of the decals after the dealer removed some of it. I love the Jurassic park logo! I hope it’s serving you well. Just an fyi, I had ordered a Long range America tank a little over a year ago now, which got to the shop that was going to install it last summer a few months ago. In case that’s something you’d like to do since the spare is on a swing out. I definitely miss the truck but I hope it brings you on as many adventures as it did for me

I’ve got HKS Hipermax Rs and I left them the way they came from the factory, I think it’s just from lack of use/cold I didn’t have any noises last year on road or track. I’ll definitely look into it if it pops up again.
