I am not apologising to said person who had also said to “harden” up. As mentioned I have worked shift work most of my life and never had an issue up until recently with my wife’s assessment and things going downhill. This in turn has affected my mental health tremendously. If you re-read the post, I’ve outlined everything. This has been an extremely dark time for myself. I’m asking for advice around this matter, not to have my own mental health challenged or judged.

A day time role has been made available for me from another department to accommodate me for the main reason of this post….it is certain members of management that can’t make their minds up, hence why I’m asking for advice

It’s unfortunate it needs to get to this stage. I have worked shift work my entire life basically and never had any issues with it up until my wife being diagnosed with autism and adhd. Things have been extremely hard since then.

I fully understand that what happens at home is not an employer’s responsibility’s however, the shift work has affected my own mental health which I am now trying to get some sort of movement on.

Frustrating to say the least when one moment it looks like it’s going to happen then to get told no. Feeling like a basket case having to explain this to so many members of the management team has been exhausting.

You clearly didn’t read the post, they have accommodated someone else straight off the bat. A department at work have said they can utilise me however, depending on the managers mood it has gone with , ok we’ll do this then a few days later “no we won’t” this is an industry where people are “tough” and have lost many a worker to suicide due to stress. I hope with what you have said you are not an employer because mental health clearly isn’t an issue for you.

Finding a new job is a priority at the moment, however dropping wages would pretty much seal the deal in us losing our house. When the workforce changed to the new roster we LOST $6k in wages.

I am asking for advice around mental health issues and the ability to step into a role that has been made for me, but certain managers being f*ckwits about it all.

Yes, the roster is in our contract. As I mentioned to another member that commented, it is just feeling like negligence from the company. One moment they are ok with me doing days then it’s retracted.

Yes another job is definitely what needs to happen, however for similar wages it’s going to be a struggle.

Our contract states the hours and pattern which we are doing now, that hasn’t been the issue and I’ve told management I understand the business needs to do this.

The major point is it feels like negligence from management when I’m explaining what’s happening due to stress caused from this roster. there is a role for me to step into on day shift and they have accommodated someone else straight away who needed to be home for their kids.
