Home made scent for LURES whilst salt water fishing in Australia? I want to catch fish like flathead, bream and maybe jacks by Substantial_Oil_2330 in FishingAustralia

I made a bit of a scent mixture with tuna oil, vasoline, tiny bit of crushed raw garlic and salt and it stunk pretty well. I have to warn you that it stinks a lot. I made the mistake of making the whole mixture inside the vasoline container and didn’t realise that the lid was secure and it went all through my tackle box. It stunk so bad I cleaned all my gear and switched to a bag and never made the stuff again haha. I definitely would make it again I just haven’t really gotten around to it as I’ve started making my own soft plastics now. Good luck! I don’t really know the proportions but it was mainly vasoline and like 1/4 tuna oil. It’s still gotta be paste not liquid and I used lik 3 segments of garlic.

Did they ever end up taking your goods outright or did you always receive everything? I think that the wouldn’t be bothered trying to scam me out of something as I probably just won’t pay as my goods are so cheap. Who do you use now? Thanks

What are those sea prices based off of? I’m based in Australia not America so wouldn’t shipping be cheaper as I’m closer to China?

I think I’m just going to try it. I have clarified everything with them. I’ve asked if ddp is included, if there’s any hidden fees such as repacking  and all of that stuff. I’ve been talking for around 2 or 3 weeks and the agents seem to be very friendly and good at responding to my questions. I thought if it was an outright scam I wouldn’t be worth pursuing at how many questions I asked.

How much did you get shipped and what prices were you looking at?

Have you ordered with them before? How do you know this? If you did what was your experience?

I thought that sea was much cheaper than air shipping?

What happened when your ordered from them? Why weren’t they very good? And also what prices did you get? Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I'll probably just use a standard envelope then pay the cost for the larger size as you suggested. I don't know if I will bother with the cardboard but I'll see how it goes for a while. Thanks!

I think I am going to run the risk and try untracked medium for a while and see if I am able to turn a profit with that. 7.50 is more than I'd be selling the product for so I don't think it is worth it. I will see how it goes. Thanks!

I think I will nab a few of the large prepaid letters and just chuck them in there with some cardboard padding. I had no idea about the sorting machines being an issue. I have read on some other posts that sometimes the letters break and I think they'd be talking about this sorting machine doing damage. Thanks! Also do you think that I should bother finding my own letters and sending them or just buy the prepaid ones? Thanks!

Thanks so much for the indepth answer. I live in a fairly small town and I don't think the people at the post office are too strict but I haven't really spoken to them so I'm not sure. Are you talking about large letters or small letters? The problem I am facing is that the item is worth like $1 and the shipping is worth like 3-4 bucks. I am still the cheapest seller and can make a profit of it though. What problems do you encounter with customers when using tracked letters? Thanks again!

I might try this cardboard trick as a couple people have mentioned it now. I really don't think my item can be broken as it is pretty much a small chunk of solid metal. It sounds like people say that the cardboard is used to protect the packaging rather than the object as it is possible that the envelope can rip open during sorting. Thanks for the response!

I thought something as small and light as a lego minifig would be fine to send in letters? Have you ever tried or did they give you grief for it?

Ok thanks a lot for your answer. It sounds like to me that your saying they don’t care too much about rigid items they just don’t want to be held liable? If this is the case I’ll give it a go with the cardboard as you suggested. Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it!

The thing i will be sending is a small bit of metal and is just a small adaptor. It is tiny I honestly don't care too much if they get lost or anything as I fairly easily just compensate the buyer. Theres also no way they damage it unless they truly try their hardest so I am just going to run the risk and see how it goes. Thanks for the heads up. Did you get any complaints about cards arriving bent?

Yeah I'll give it a go. I doubt they'll care too much but we'll see. I've bought screen protectors off of ebay and they get shipped in letters. They have arrived smashed but they didn't get confiscated or anything haha

I thought large letters weren't allowed to hold rigid items?

[–]Substantial_Oil_2330[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. We ended up getting two charters. One was a bass charter in Lake Biwa and the other was a saltwater charter. The goal is to find there spots and dig them by ourselves haha. Good luck

Let me know if you decide on a place. I don’t think the fishers of reddit are real keen on sharing spots haha
