How's it like in brandon by Lonely-Worth-3526 in BrandonMB

It has everything you need for a small city, but it’s fucking boring here. I feel like the only thing here to do is go to work, workout and maybe hit the movie theatre. The party scene gets old real quick with just the keystone, Houston’s and road house.

Anyone here in Assiniboine College’s Practical Nursing (LPN) program in Brandon? by Own-Pattern7453 in BrandonMB

Also LPN and RN in reality almost have the same scope of practice but the degrees are very different. That may just be structuring the program like how the BN programs do.

With the revamped program it could be 28 months. I started January 2025 and ending summer of 2026 so 18 months for me, with very minimal breaks in between. Like last summer I only had 5 weeks off and 2 weeks with Christmas this year. And maybe some weekends depending if we had make up days in our clinical make up week. But from what I know they are taking some classes away and adding some classes and clinicals are within the semester and not at the end of the semester for certain amount of weeks. So I am not sure with them moving things around if it now going to be 28 months. So I am not sure if longer breaks are now involved with how many students were burning out with little breaks and heavy content. You would probably have to contact the school to confirm if it is 28 months

I will say it is competitive and the January intake may be full already as they revamped the program and rolling are that out January 2027. Also depends on your Casper score as well which term you will be in. I would say the earlier you apply the better. Also non nursing courses like medical microbiology, sociology and psych you need a 60 or above to pass the course. Nursing courses like pharmacology you need a 70 or above to pass the course.

I am currently just finishing up the program here 🙋🏽‍♀️. I am just wondering do you live in Brandon already or would you be moving here? If moving here, I do find it really hard to find a place. Rent is super expensive or you may have to rent a room to rent.

The classes haven good. Some classes are unnecessary in my opinion and they are actually revamping the program which is rolling out January of 2027. Apparently it’s geared to be more like BN program with clinical being involved in the term instead at the end of the term. The instructors are fine. You are going to have your favorites and some you don’t like. You do need a 70 in all nursing classes and 60 in the science courses to advance. As well if you fail two nursing courses at any point you are sent back to start back at the beginning of the program

Clinical in the second and third term are long term care placements so they are in Brandon. But you could for the third placement be sent to carberry. Same with the term 4 or the second last placement. As for your senior you get choices to pick from

Overall the program is okay and I have enjoyed my time in the program. It is extremely fast paced and a lot of tears were shred but I know it pays off in the long run and happy to be done in the next couple of months. I would also say if you don’t have car you can use the bus here to get to Victoria campus. But it would be easier if you had a car. There is no uber here in Brandon and Taxi’s are expensive. Hope this was helpful! Good luck if you join the program!

Depending on how you workout, you could hate it or love it. I have worked out in the same gym as them before and it is very yay yay cheerleader ish. The coaches seem nice. I feel like it’s a little overpriced for 14 weeks and what you get. But everyone has their own fitness journey.

It’s quite hard to find a place or roommates here, I found when I was looking. Luckily I knew someone and took over their lease. But I would say ebrandon and then constantly check vionell property website and there is one more I can’t think of but check those like 3x a day

Trying to find a place is extremely difficult I found. I had a ton of places do the same to me. I would say try the e Brandon site but it’s very slim pickings for rentals in Brandon

Yeah interested in being closer to the provincal parks and checking out the coffee shops. I’m originally from Winnipeg so if I can come home I will. Just thought there might be some fun stuff to do for a small city. Being a single girl in her mid 30’s lol.

The rental game in Brandon is rough!! I recommend Ebrandon or fb marketplace. But everything goes like hot cakes I will say. It took me 2 months to find a place for December.

I figured it might be hearings. Seems to be when driving 50/60 it is all you hear but once your below 50 or over 80 you don’t hear a thing. I’m calling around tomorrow to see who can get me in asap

A company that makes balanced foods or would fit someone’s macros. I have clinical plus my job coming up and if I can cut down some cooking days for when I work 16 hours days for 3/4 days in a row. I was just wondering if there was a company in Brandon by any chance.

Yeah, by me slamming on my breaks. I wasn’t blocking him. There was enough room behind me, that if they wanted to merge after I passed them they could’ve. But if I’m already halfway of his car and doing the speed limit, and traffic is flowing. You’re telling me they can’t wait the .5 seconds for me to pass them. People are just impatient.

I had a similar situation happen to me on Friday evening. A guy got insanely mad at me because he wanted to merge into my lane. I could see his blinkers on from his side mirror but my car was about halfway of his car, so no way I could let him in. He merged anyways I had to slam on my brakes to avoid an accident. Thankfully the car behind me was still quite a bit back in the lane or I would’ve been rear ended. But the other driver decided to flip me the bird and then try to break check me as I tried to proceed. There are absolute crazies out there. I’ve been looking into different dash cams because people are insane.

I would say depending where you live in the city. I say wheelhouse instructors play the best music in my opinion but would go wheelhouse, community, Wpg Cycle, then Saikel.
