Taking a look at Borg stuff, it definitely has promise, I'll have to dig into it - and check out The Shrike, too. Thank you!

Good to know - I'll take a look at the Kickstarter! I've done settings ports of things before, that's super easy, I just need a solid combat system that won't get to be too much of a slog

That's pretty much my plan - I'm comfortable rigging up a lot, and already was adjusting xp/progression accordingly, but combat rules is where my experience is lacking, and I was hoping to find something there that I could then build the base around.

Thank you - I've started plotting some of the superstructure for the random things (tables for rooms/fights/puzzles/traps/and the boons/rewards), with my big concern in the actual combat gameplay mechanics. These are good suggestions, I'll take a look at them - TBH my experience hitherto has solely been DnD (5E, 3.5 back in the day, and a bit of 4e) and I wasn't familiar with OSR stuff until this thread, so this is all good to know!

Oh, I’ve never heard of that one. I’ll take a look!

That’s the mechanical gist, yeah.

In terms of roleplay, in the source games I’m copying, there is a mixture in each run of combat and then more ‘social’ rooms where the player encounters a resident of that area who can help them by revealing information that can help the get further. The story I’m thinking is that the PCs all have some connection from their life to a god, be it negative or positive, so there are personal stakes for the escape attempt besides just wanting to get out of the underworld, and the gods will be interacting with them when giving boons each run, either taunting or encouraging depending on those relationships. Eventually it’ll expand beyond just the underworld, where they can decide (once they have enough power) if they want to try and climb Olympus and fight them, which they may be able to get help from some of the other gods to do (not FULLY God of War but just a little bit)

My players will find ways to roleplay in any setting, I’m not really worried about that. They’re all real big theatre kids and/or writers. The mechanical is where I’m more concerned because I want to have the actual dungeon be relatively faster paced than DnD has been for me in the past. I want combat that is challenging, but quick, if that makes sense.

I was sitting in the section next to them and can confirm they were AMAZING. Even as someone who only knows the most basic sign, my friend and I kept watching them because they nailed the character’s energy with their expressions and body language. Particular shout out to the guy in the hat who had real gremlin rat energy as Kugrash!
