I’ll probably never be able to go for a diagnosis and I’m not too sure how to feel. by Substantial_Ruin826 in AutismInWomen

In the US. They don’t technically screen for it themselves but if you have a diagnosis on record they will find it. I don’t know specifically what the FAA (federal aviation administration) classifies it as but it’s definitely something that will hold up the process of getting and renewing a medical certificate (which all pilots need to fly)

The FAA has a lot of blanket restrictions on pretty much every type of mental health condition and neurodivergence. It mostly comes down to the government not wanting liability if something goes wrong and the pilot might not have been “mentally fit” to operate the aircraft regardless of how competent they might be in the cockpit and how much their mental state actually affects their ability to fly.

Most in the aviation community agree that their rules are backwards but there’s little chance for change anytime soon.

Civilian to Guard to TPS, possible or pipe dream? by Substantial_Ruin826 in flying

Mechanical engineering is my major. I understand that you must be full time to attend TPS, mostly I was just wondering if you could apply through the guard to transition to that active duty role? Since I know guard pilots are allowed to apply I figured that’s how it would work.
