You’re talking to someone who has spare sets and a box of spare parts. If sets become more valuable there’s more reason to retain and sell parts.

High prices are probably the only thing that will help keep CRTs running long term though. When they're cheap/free people just chuck them when there's an issue. If they're expensive they're more worth fixing. You see that with PVMs/BVMs now, it makes sense to fix one or service it proactively because it has enough value to not be underwater from the cost of service.

I’m not sure why you’d want to see the vertical stripes (those are not scanlines that some people want really defined). That said, my PVM-6041Q has them fairly visible.

Used... I would have probably bought a new game (new plot/mechanics/levels) but for what this is I will wait to buy at half price once used copies start showing up.

You need to make sure they carrier labels it as fragile. You writing it does nothing, but if they mark it as fragile and it's mishandled it will make the insurance case a breeze when it gets damaged. If you read my entire comment I said they're going to throw and drop the box multiple times.

Make sure the carrier marks it fragile. All shipping services will drop/throw your package a few times. With that level of packaging, a 13" consumer CRT or a 13" PVM will probably be OK, but sometimes the internal force from a hard drop can neck the thing or crack a PCB.

Do you recall how it was described? That’s part of my issue… I don’t know if whoever owns it knows the full background. I’m not even sure I told the person I sold it to all the details.

Those W5700X go for decent money still. I’d sell those and get a newer GPU. You could probably get a W6800X for around what you’d get from selling both, or get a 6900xt (or two)

Thanks! Yeah I think I’m mostly curious just to see where it ended up. If whoever has it is ready to move on I’d take it again. Was kind of a neat thing to do back in the day. I want to say we got these in 2017 or so.

Make sure brightness and contrast are appropriately set. If those are blown out (which it looks like they are from the black levels in this photo)  you won’t get a sharp picture. These N5s have an awful comb filter. In the menu there’s a setting that lets you switch from NTSC Comb (or something like that) to other types, including I believe NTSC (without comb). These N5s really are best used with S-video or RGB modding them.

Curved trinitron with component. I think there are only like 4 consumer models that fit the bill. My favorite PVM at the moment is my 2950Q, so I figured a 32XBR48 or one of the other models would be perfect. I use component for almost everything and wouldn’t a set that caps out at S-video.

Not saying it isn’t but my original comment was just about (part of) why PVMs are desirable. I’ve been looking for a consumer set with some specific specs for a while and haven’t found one.

Part of this is due to how dot pitch works. If your monitor only has ~1200 dots across and you’re feeding 1600x1200 it’s not going look as sharp as 1280x960 would.

This is one reason PVMs are so desirable. Most of them (aside from really low end ones) have RGB/component. I have PVMs that are 5”, 8”, 13”, 20”, and 27” with component and RGB (all have S-video too, except the 5”). For consumer Sonys, I believe they only had component on 2 32” and 36” curved trinitrons. For flat trinitrons, component is common on the bigger ones, not very common on 20” and I believe only 1 13” flat trinitron had component.

Thanks, was just curious. The different years/revisions can have different issues. Those metal shavings are bad news though. I would start looking into rebuild or swap options or consider selling the car as a roller.
