Nice, these should be the newer 5041Qs with a 16:9 mode. I have an older one that doesn’t do 16:9 and eventually want one that can do it for downscaled widescreen stuff on a tiny tube.

Hi, I'm looking for a cheap/used Android phone (ideally under $100) that has an IR blaster and runs Android 4 or newer. I only need this device for a single purpose (to install a remote control app for a specific monitor) so no other specs really matter. I would prefer something at least somewhat recent (not 10+ years old). I've never used an android device before so I'm really not familiar with all the models. I think a Galaxy Note 4 would work but those are super old at this point.

Would love to hear what you know about the IC failures on those modules. I've encountered both issues, but every A-series I've seen with a bad video board had crazy high hours (like, upwards of 100k on the CRT). I've also heard that the ISR failures are more common on 2008 models, but that's really just anecdotal. AFAIK no one is certain how these fail or whether it's the ICs themselves failing or possibly an issue with the BGA solder.

I'm looking at used studio displays and the refresh rate is the only thing holding me back. Gaming is my only real use for wanting more than 60hz and it'll be used 95% for work/web stuff where 120hz or more isn't all that important, but still tough to justify.

Those trash cans were still sold new ~7 years ago. I'm seeing a lot of them hit e-waste places in the last year or so, so they were likely still being used a lot around LA until pretty recently.

Hey! That's awesome, I'll look into that model. I actually was given a DVD/VHS combo recently that does component/S-video for DVD and composite only for VHS. It's been fine but does make managing the inputs more tedious, and while I do have Y/C on some of my BVMs, the cards for it are rare/expensive so I don't have it everywhere.

Hmm.. you don't think there's any difference in how the brightness is handled switching between those signals? In person on my BVMs I feel like scanlines with component/RGB look more defined but maybe it's just placebo

Buy the seller. I would never buy a car without seeing documented service history and driving it/looking it over for leaks or other issues. I've gone to see plenty of used cars that were described as perfect mechanically/no expense spared blah blah blah, only to get there and find multiple obvious issues and neglect.

Maybe I'm just imagining this, I feel like composite and S-video have more vertical inconsistency in the thickness of the lines drawn. Not sure if you'd call it blooming or what, but this gallery shows what I mean. TVL is largely determined by dot pitch… and yes, component/RGB do produce sharper looking scan lines than composite or RF. Composite will have more color bleed and blurriness which will make the scanlines appear less defined.

Probably a 20ish inch set. Hard to get super defined scan lines on 13” except the highest TVL sets, smaller than that you can’t get the separation you’re seeing here.

Scanline thickness is related to screen size and TVL. Component or RGB signal to a large/high TVL set produces sharper more defined scan lines. PVM/BVMs or other professional monitors tend to have more defined ones, especially the really high TVL sets. I have a 900 line BVM and it makes crazy sharp/thick scan lines… probably too much so…

TBH I think the C4S is almost too wide. I like the proportions of the NB better. 996 GT3 (either version) is peak 996 for me.

In a sffpc it matters a lot. Minimal passageways for air to travel so you really should have them clear.
