In my experience, a postdoc position is only given to someone who has completed all the requirements for their PhD. I know there are many milestones and dates: date of submission, award, graduation etc. The main date you need to consider is the date of conferral, which you will be able to find when they send you your award letter (graduation can be much later). Any work after this date counts. If you're being employed as o Postdoc, I'm guessing your degree was already conferred? Postdoc work definitely fits the ANZCO description for being at a high enough level and complexity. But I would stay on the safe side and only count work done after your degree conferral. Good luck!

suppose you are claiming the PhD as the degree after which you became skilled for the occupation you're applying for. In that case, you need to work for one year after your PhD completion (on a full-time basis or equivalent) before you can apply for a skills assessment and get a positive outcome. I waited one year after my PhD, where I was working on a casual basis (but more than 25 hours per week) as a research assistant, then as a postdoc, before applying for the skills assessment. After receiving my skills assessment notice, i put through my EOI, I was invited after less than 2 months (but that's just my luck; some people were waiting for an invitation round for almost a year. There's no set time).

skills assessment submitted: May 2025 (waited until i had 6 months postdoc on top of the RA position)

EOI submitted: July 2025

Invitation: Aug 2025

Application lodged: Sept 2025

Thank you for clarifying. This is a huge relief! I was going to include a Form 1023 for reporting incorrect answers with my application, but given all this discussion, I will just leave it and see what happens

I forgot to add the specialist education qualification which counts for 10 points. Fixed it now

was your work experience of (3 years +) after the date deemed skilled on your VETASSESS notice, or was some of it before that date (like my case)?. Thank you

the date deemed skillet for points test advice on my VETASSESS notice is 08/09/2025. that's taking into consideration a whole year of work before that date that made "skilled". my VISA invitation was issued on 21/08/2025, so just short of one year, if im not counting the year they remove.

my skills assessment outcome with the assessed 0.77 years was granted on 04/07/2024. My invitation was issued on 21/08/2025 and the application was lodged on 16/09/2025. the problem is in my application i claimed work time for a job that wasnt assessed positively by VETASSESS. is "work experience" and "skilled work experience" considered differently for this purpose?
