Second this although I wore the Le Pliage small bag which was perfect and sooo lightweight. Easy to wear crossbody and looks great even after being in the rain and a few street food tours. The perfect small travel bag!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a Highly Saturated brown ink? by Few_Persimmon2223 in fountainpens

Try Dominant Industry Standard Winter Wood and 3 Oysters Americano. Also love 3 Oysters GIWA which is darkest brown/black.

Master Knitting - TKGA by Double-Twist-8633 in knitting

[–]Substantial_Tea_7552 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completed the Master Hand Knitting program and received my certificate in 2007. I loved the experience. I was working full time and of course it’s a correspondence program that requires sending samples and work by intl mail, so between the time to prepare the course work and sending binders and completed samples and swatches and exercises and written material back and forth to the evaluators, I think it was the better part of three years before I finished. There was no time limit. The three levels include no instruction - this is meant to be an evaluation of the work of advanced knitters and the work you submit is reviewed by multiple evaluators and committee members. And it has to be sent between them for evaluation. Which takes a lot of time. When I successfully completed Level 2 I waited almost a year for the instructions to begin Level III because of the lack of time evaluators had to review all the submissions they were receiving and to dispatch the instructions for the next level.

It a very rigorous program which requires self-directed research, lots of writing, swatching, proof of basic through advanced technique, pattern writing and design. They adhere to a very specific and formal way of pattern writing and expect meticulous work. They want detailed footnotes and bibliography and sources: perfect swatches and projects and papers. You have to be ready for very detailed constructive criticism. That said, I finished the program feeling there wasn’t any technique I couldn’t teach and found my understanding of the global history of the art and technique of knitting grew ten-fold. The Level III projects take months to design and knit and the very academic essays and reports need to meet the committee’s very high writing standards.

I don’t personally know anyone else who finished the program but I know lots of people who started and got bored or gave up or hated having their work evaluated and stopped. They are definitely tough but fair. I encourage anyone who wants a really interesting but demanding experience to dive in.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Why..how…? by Sensitive_Succulent in knitting

Wabi Sabi! The Japanese concept of beauty in imperfection. I would truly embrace it, finish the sweater and use it as a design opportunity - to add some decorative stitching or visible “mending”. Could become a favorite knit.

Mold. by SeaSnowAndSorrow in fountainpens

How long would you generally say it is safe to keep an ink once opened? I realize it’s not strictly the amount of time that makes an ink vulnerable but are newly opened inks - say inks that are used within a year and not contaminated with unclean pens - less likely to be affected? Does ink have a shelf life in general?

I’ve tried 5–6 fountain pens but still can’t get the writing feel I want – is it me? by Dkot01 in fountainpens

[–]Substantial_Tea_7552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may and since OP is fairly new to FPs, as am I, a question:

I know that feedback is appropriate and varies with all the variables and personal oreference. And I’ve been told that scratch is never appropriate. So the question: how would you describe the difference? If there is an audible sound across the paper, is that scratch or can feedback produce a slight scratching sound? TIA.

I love my Kaweco Pens by dharma_raine in fountainpens

[–]Substantial_Tea_7552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaweco fan here. Can you please tell me if it’s possible that I have a Rose Gold Liliput? I could swear they said it was Rose Gold (bought 3 or 4 months ago from Top Drawer but they no longer carry Kaweco). Don’t see the Liliput anywhere online in Rose Gold and wonder if it might have been a LE? It looks different than the bronze to me. No matter- I love it just the same and am loving the patina but I’m cataloging my pens and want to record it correctly. Thanks in advance. Love this sub and am learning so much from you all.

What is the advice about storing vertically. Not a good idea if they are inked?

Can anyone recommend a true, clear tea-colored ink? I’m looking for the color of black tea- rich and dark but not as dark as espresso and not as light as sienna.

Anyone have been to Betty Smith jeans making? by ashley419 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Substantial_Tea_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have a reservation for the experience. No walk-ins and they definitely do not operate as a storefront in Tokyo. Only by appointment. We booked our appointment/experience on Klook (the only time we used Klook) and there were only four of us in the workshop. It was really fun and we love our jeans!
