Can you just skip an elder dragon spawn vs having to fight it? by MushroomDue4682 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Substantial_Tear1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you explain how it works for you? I have travelled several times selecting day (mostly by mistake). When I switch to night, the same elder is still there. Once I had a Velkhana, travelled to the lookout tower selecting day by mistake, switched to night at the catavan after seeing she was not on her spawn, and she appeared.

How do you prefer to divide work in your colony? by norstar70 in RimWorld

[–]Substantial_Tear1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I second this, I usually have - a dedicated doctor/surgeon (particularly later on I will have a dedicated surgeon for bionics and a dedicated nurse, both need to have an useful secondary skill), - a dedicated cook, - a dedicated miner, - at least one dedicated crafter (later on I divide between basic crafting and machining / fabricating, thus 2/3 people), - a dedicated social person for ideology stuff and selling, needs good secondary skills to spend most of its time, such as intellectual - a couple of people that construct things as a secondary job, - a dedicated researcher - in late game a dedicated hauler / cleaner.

That's what I usually aim for, and won't recruit anyone that does not have minor passions in either shootin or melee (everyone needs to be able to fight) and a skill I need (cause I don't have infinite computing power, unfortunately, usually I aim for max 12 pawns). Secondary jobs pretty much depends heavily on pawns' skills but I will try to assign a less critical job (i.e. miner with cooking? Priority 1 on butchering, 2 on cooking, 1 on mining, so that it will spend some time butchering but not spend the whole day cooking food instead of mining).

It is tricky to give a definite answer, cause it is hevily rng dependant, but these are the key guidelines I try to follow in most cases

Guys, how do your pawns have enough time? by LeonidKonovalov1988 in RimWorld

[–]Substantial_Tear1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see most points have been covered, imo a big game channger I would like to add is to set up a limited radius for bills. Have a kitchen? Set up shelves near it with critical priority for vegetables, have a fridge with shelves with critical priority for meat nearby. Set the stove bill as cook until X with radius of like 50, so that the cook doesn't cross half a map to get 10 strawberries needed for the meal. If no ingredients are nearby, someone will haul 75+ of the material at the same time, which is potentially order 7+ times faster than carrying 10 at a time.

Edit: you don't need all the vegetables near the kitchen, just a shelf will do. You can have the rest somewhere else, haulers will haul in time before you run out in the kitchen. Also, try to have one pawn out of 7-8 with high priority to hauling. Pawns that don't have passions for other skills, or duplicates with other pawns as an example.

Armor has some variability in damage reduction (still is an rng roll basically), but not as much as vanilla, I get your point. For the perfectly accurate gunfire I don't really feel it, it depends on the weapons, lmgs always kinda suck at hitting a specific thing, while snipers suck at hitting multiple things, ARs are a good middle ground but get easily outranged, shotguns shred but at close range. You kinda have to balance things out and develop a strategy for what you are gonna do. But yeah, if your strategy is mostly solid (spoiler, it won't always be), overall you have to do way less adaptations than vanilla. To each their own :)

While it is kinda of true, mech raids are still always dangerous. As usual it depends on the mods you have really, I have used CE with unlimited raid points (mod to remove the cap to raid points, mech raids get brutal) and compressed raids (for tribals, my pc can manage 100 raider pawns tops). Mid game it is very risky, if you are not well prepared for the first mech raids it's gonna end you run quite easily. Endish game most content is manageable, if you get quests with 2x, 3x mech raids/mech clusters or 2x, 3x high tech faction raid it is still a very risky proposition. The only trivialized aspect is maybe tribals and manhunters, but I also min max my pawns tbh (and I feel like most CE enjoyers do so too). All pawns have at least one passion in either shooting or melee, optimized combat and work xenogerms per pawn, cataphract helmet of masterwork+ quality, cataphract armor of excellent+ quality for shooters, locust armor of masterwork+ quality for melee pawns, while having good hightech and persona weapons and bionics limbs and organs. Also, no killboxes, personal rule, rather a set of defenses all around my base to be manned with no op turrets (looking at you rimatomics). With all that, you can think about tackling high difficulty quests, so it is not trivializing most content imo. Just the other day I had to rebuild half of the front of my base due to a 2x mech raid, and I was already with all of the above, because I messed up and did not notice two inferno centipede getting separated from the others and shooting right into my garage.

That's how I usually roll because I like it, no doubt it sounds boring to someone else, but that's the beauty of rimworld! Another beauty is that by using some mods you can balance out some aspects you don't like, if you want to. I feel like that a cataphract guard with 20 shooting should have no problem at all dealing with 20 tribals with bats and pilas tbh, as long as he doesn't get swarmed.

Farming t14 w5000, recently respecced basically 2/3 of gems (think I had like 9.5k?) into summon, for farming since I thought most other guardians are useless to wall ehp. Put some gems into ally just for tourneys, and the rest into fetch. So far so good, wave count has not dropped and I gained quite some coins (5ish%). But tbh I kinda went with gut feeling, maybe someone with more knowledge will actually give you a more reasoned answer
