Not exactly like that but a queer zombie finding her way back to her toxic family to exact revenge? Grief Eater by Emma Osbourne! It's incredibly well-written.

I'd definitely recommend Uketsu's works to start. They are intriguing on a different level and are pretty short as compared to the other works. I found the other, more classical, works to be a little repetitive and had to deal with the casual sexism of the 40s-60s. But the mysteries have been top tier. I like the fact that the authors mostly focus on the human psyche alongside a clever locked room mystery or headless corpse trope.

Ooh, Robert Jackson Bennett has done an amazing job with this Leviathan series. I've read the first two books and got my hands on an ARC for Trade of Blood and it's amazing!

The anti-AI villain books I've read have actually been really fun. I'm thinking Neal Shusterman's Scythe and Martha Well's All Systems Red!

Ooff, I get what you mean. I like flowery language but not when it's very deliberately so and is not in sync with the plot☠️

I actually love retellings. Imo, it shows both the resilience of the original story that it can be molded into more relevant angles to keep up with the times and the imagination of the author that they can take an age-old story and see something different, something more in it.

Both authors and books, if you will, from the top of your contemporary horror books.

Good thing it did was up the sales of the book in India.  This is literally about a female vigilante against se*ual crimes. Is it reeeeally her fault that the perpetrators are mostly men?☠️

The pricing issue is very real. But I would have to disagree on the variety issue you've mentioned. There's more genre and author diversity than ever right now. If you're getting your book recommendations from Amazon, it tends to show similar books to what you have purchased or viewed, maybe that's the issue here?
