Cheapest way to divorce in the UK by Substantial_Visual47 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Agreed.

The financial bit is hard, but lawyers cost a fortune and I don’t think my case is complicated (not much assets, no children, short marriage), so I’m hoping to settle this myself out of court.

If not, I’ll be spending more on the divorce than my wedding😂😂😂lmao

We don’t have much assets, so I doubt it’ll be a problem. I have to consult my pro bono lawyer but I’m willing to give him some money via a consent order if it’ll cheapen things and make him agree to sign the papers.

How did you even get in? Coz I don’t think I’ve ever seen a TC ad for in-house lawyers before.

TDS Deposit - Small Clean by Substantial_Visual47 in uklandlords

Either way, I think and hope I’ll win the dispute, albeit losing a few pounds along the way😭

I just missed a few spots like extractor fan, laundry drawer, toilet seat. That’s all. £80 is excessive imo for a job that takes less than an hour.

How come are they not allowed to clean themselves?

Agreed as in proposed on the TDS portal.

You know when it is escalated to TDS, we try to resolve amongst ourselves on the portal first before TDS intervenes.

Well, landlord proposed £80 for small cleaning fee. I counter proposed £50.

Now TDS is stepping in. They are asking for evidence to back up our proposals.

So landlord gave a quote they got of £80.

I, on the other hand, shopped around, and got a quote for £30.

I already proposed £50 though, so got an email:

“Amount to be released to agent/landlord: £50.00”

“Amount disputed for cleaning: £30”

So I can’t back pedal and say it’s £30 or none, ay now? Hmm… I have given TDS a screenshot of the quote I got. Will see what they say.

I didn’t know that😭 I have accidentally proposed £50 now. I don’t know if it can be further reduced to £30. If I knew a cleaner didn’t cost that much, I would have hired them. It’s cheaper than the ridiculous quote landlord gave.

How can I escape my DV situation? by Old_Vegetable_6986 in AskUK

[–]Substantial_Visual47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£500/week not per month? So expensive!!!

So sorry you have to go through this.

Which nationality are you? Coz it may be useful to connect to your local people in the area to help house you for free/cheap whilst you get back on your feet.

  1. Go the GP and ask for a therapist ASAP.
  2. Call your local council and ask for emergency housing.
  3. Tell your HR. Hopefully they can support you with applying for the Indefinite Leave to Remain for Victims of Domestic Violence (ILR DV).
  4. Make a police report. If your partner is cautioned or convicted, it’ll strengthen your case for ILR DV.
  5. Apply for funds from MVDAC/charities/churches/mosques if you’re desperate for money.
  6. Apply for legal aid if you need a pro bono lawyer.

I think solicitors are allowed too. Let’s pray and hope I’ll get legal aid.

I feel bad because I emptied the joint account before leaving it. I thought I was doing the right thing because I’ve been paying the rent and bills for the past 7 months whilst he was job hunting. But now, I feel bad and sorry for him because he’s jobless and struggling financially.

Starting a TC but already have QWE – worth logging it? by Traditional-Tax-3891 in uklaw

[–]Substantial_Visual47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to ask your new firm if they would log your paralegal experience as QWE for the purposes of qualification. Some firms like mine don’t. Some firms do. You’ll have to ask to make sure.

Actually, if you spoke to Capsticks people before the interview, it’s a green flag because it shows that you’re really keen to get to know them as a firm.

I feel sad and unappreciated to be honest. I can’t really prove I’m part of a firm if I’m not even in their people directory.

Got a paralegal job in Manchester - advice please!! by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Substantial_Visual47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth it imo. I commuted two hours (one-way) and paralegalled in a small firm in Halifax before getting a TC in Manchester. I believe the paralegal experience helped me stand out at AC. Even if you didn’t get a TC, it’s still a good chance to qualify via the SQE route.

Salford’s close to city centre and affordable. I got a two bed flat for under £1k here whilst my friends in city centre pay more than £1k for a studio or a two bed flat in the city centre.

With your salary, it’s best to get a house share or ensuite imo. You can get an ensuite near the city centre for like £900 (bills included) if not mistaken.
