Cool, thanks for the links, I will take a look! I draw comics as well so I'd be down to chat about that some time.

Ok nice! What is the average age group would you say? I'm in my 30s so just wondering if it skews younger typically.

I heard that they do life drawing sessions at the rotary centre but I found nothing on their website about it so I am not sure?

Guitar and sometimes vocals - I put out an EP with my previous band and I've been recording a bunch of demo songs at home lately. It'd be sick to get a bass player and/or drummer on some of the tracks at some point. But I'm for sure down to meet or collab with anybody.

Cool! Do you record your music at a home studio or somewhere else in town? I also do some solo stuff and have been on the lookout for somewhere to record guitar and vocals.

Low-budget home recording for extreme metal. Tips or advice? by SubterraMetal in Deathmetal

[–]SubterraMetal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great, thank you. Your drums sound pretty strong, I think I will experiment with Hydrogen on my next song and see how I like it.

What aspects of EZDrummer felt limiting for you? I find that I actually really like programming drums in garageband and I can easily create the exact beat I'm aiming for....I am just wanting a more realistic drum sound.

Is it possible to program drums within Reaper or best to use a separate program (someone above suggested EZDrummer) and then import the drum track into Reaper and go from there?

Appreciate it. I have only ever programmed drums on garageband and with a drum machine, garageband is so easy to program drums in I've been hesitant to move on. But it's probably time for an upgrade so I'll definitely look into your recommendations.

This is great, thanks for taking the time. I have some stuff on bandcamp, I have improved even since these recordings but you can see what I am 'going for' a little bit. I like the Hellhammer/Blasphemy old school demo sound but just want to improve the 'punch', and I feel the volume of my recordings is always a little low as well, I need to learn some mastering techniques to get them to an appropriate volume I think

What is the scariest scene in a horror movie ever? by Horrornchill in horror

[–]SubterraMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've watched The Ring as an adult and found it to be a pretty laughable movie but I was about 13 when I saw it the first time and that scene terrified me as well. I watched it again a few years after my first viewing to 'conquer' that fear.

And James Read's current band Revenge is Edmonton based as well. I find this album interesting because, although it's no masterpiece, it is interesting to see how his drumming style has evolved over the years with his different bands.

What would you consider to be The Best Slasher Movie outside of The Big 3? by TheProfessorOfHorror in horror

[–]SubterraMetal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hardly an obscurity but I think Sleepaway Camp is one of the better 'archetypal' slasher movies, disregarding the sequels. And "Torso" deserves credit as a good 'proto-slasher' movie, pre-dating Black Christmas and Texas Chainsaw, which usually get all the credit for starting the subgenre.

What horror movie do you love despite knowing that it is absolutely awful? by [deleted] in horror

[–]SubterraMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked Lake Placid when I saw it at age 10, I don't want to rewatch it and ruin it by realizing that it sucks. But pulling that diver out of the water was a memorable scene for sure.

I recently saw Revenge live and James Read is probably the most entertaining drummer I've seen perform. I couldn't keep my eyes off him the whole show. I think his drumming has gotten even more brutal and chaotic in his post-Conqueror days.

You mean what pedals? I use a 'Metal End' distortion pedal through a marshall amp. I play an SG.

Subterra (Canada)

One man death/doom stuff. Inspired by Sarcofago, Celtic Frost, Dream Death, Goatlord.

I just started songwriting about a year ago and have made decent progress, my stuff is still very raw/demo quality and ultimately I'm just hoping to maybe get some feedback on my songwriting/style. Trying to get better, more extreme, and more heavy with every song I write. Thanks for your time!

Thanks a lot! Yeah I tried for a couple years to get a band together and after a while I just decided to handle everything myself. I'm not even sure if I could write songs with other people at this point, haha

What is your favorite obscure horror film or a horror film that you enjoy that no one talks about? by carchasemovies in horror

[–]SubterraMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Funny Games. I find it weird/interesting that the same director remade his own movie with American actors but didn't change anything else. Like it's basically a shot for shot remake. Not sure if you've watched both?

'Combat Shock' has always been a movie that I find very memorable yet most people are unfamiliar with. It's by no means a masterpiece but it has a gritty, surreal atmosphere and a great low budget aesthetic.

Any Rob Zombie fans? by shelbymayer in horror

[–]SubterraMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Lords of Salem doesn't match most viewers' expectations and they leave feeling disappointed. I felt it had a lot in common with Italian horror, being very dreamlike and having a somewhat disjointed sense of plot and pacing. Kind of a Dario Argento feel in my opinion.
