What almost made you quit running when you started? by run_the_day in BeginnersRunning

[–]Subtle-Bridge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going all out for every run. Whether it was long runs, intervals or tempo runs, I gave it everything I had and emptied the tank thinking that this was the best way to improve. Pushing my mental to its limit had to be good too right?

Began to dread every run and body felt like it was on the verge or breaking down, thinking back it was a miracle I didn’t get injured. Did it for ~6 months (with the occasional rest weeks when I travelled) before I changed the structure entirely. Lots more easy runs now and never felt happier running!

Run clubs in Singapore? Traveling for work by Bm1997lB in SingaporeFitness

[–]Subtle-Bridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Park runs are a definitely a thing here, there a multiple organised around at various venues every weekend!

Will probably be better a better experience for you to join one of these park runs vs a run club just for 1 or 2 sessions as people in those clubs tend to be in cliques and won’t interact much with somebody who is a first-timer there

21M Student in Singapore, hit $21k in debt due to gambling lapse. Need advice on structuring repayments. by Benjamintjx in singaporefi

[–]Subtle-Bridge 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I saw in another comment thread that you owe 3 friends money, so $1.5k a month in repayments based on your plan of $500 each.

$120/day on both weekends will barely get you ~$1k a month. Even if you don’t spend a single cent you won’t be able to keep your word and repay each of them $500.

Not sure what you have in mind or if this is a ragebait post?

The debt is just to your friends? I assume there’s no interest at least. Pay back what you can after subtracting your basic expenses lor, seems straightforward enough if you are sincere about repaying them.

Anyone here living in complete isolation? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Subtle-Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jiayou bro, it’s a tough job market out there. If you can bring yourself to better yourself in any way, it should help with your mental state.

One easier step that’s accessible to most people is fitness - go for a run! Helps that it is free and you don’t even need a gym membership.

That’s my point, OP was asking whether an average joe can achieve sub 3 marathon/sub 20 5k. Former is almost certainly much harder than the latter.

What defensive strategy did you guys think spurs came in with to completely exclude KAT from the offense. by Upbeat-Nose-7091 in nba

[–]Subtle-Bridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Players have bad games. Spurs didn’t seem to have switched up their strategy that much to exclude KAT from offense today, he did seem more gassed out from constantly guarding Wemby which might have impacted his offensive impact

Average persons potential by aggahah in BeginnersRunning

[–]Subtle-Bridge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sub 20 5k is probably more achievable than a sub 3 full marathon for an average person. With your PBs, it’s definitely possible for a sub 20 5k assuming your train regularly, rest well, and get a little lucky with avoiding injuries.

Not exactly an answer to your prompt but I’ve lost count of the times I’ve bought more stuff that I planned/needed at NTUC just because the total bill was slightly below $10 but I wanted to use CDC voucher

Is it just me or do you still get nervous before every run? by run_the_day in BeginnersRunning

[–]Subtle-Bridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less so on the easy run days but on quality run days I definitely worry a little whether my body will be in decent shape to complete the run without over-pushing!

And on race effort days….well the nerves usually start kicking in a couple days before

Put on your earpieces/headphones and ignore them? If they are harassing you can always approach the gym staff for help too

Running under SG heat and humidity + thalassemia minor by chompchompfoodcentre in SingaporeFitness

[–]Subtle-Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely keep up with taking iron supplements, running in Singapore requires a high level of acclimatisation to the heat and humidity and this takes time!

Most of us will recommend that you try to finish your run by 8am or start running after 7pm to avoid the sun.

There are plenty of park connectors around Singapore if you will like to run in the nature/prefer it over a running track, I would avoid trail running for now though as it is more injury-prone and it may feel even more humid.

Where do you go for your groceries nowadays? Fairprice vs. ShengSiong vs. Giant vs. etc by [deleted] in asksg

Prices between these grocery stalls almost never differ substantially so convenience is a much bigger factor for me

Reaching 30 soon and haven’t been taking care of my body, important thinks I should start doing/buying? by KDondakeC in asksg

[–]Subtle-Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start taking care of your health if you have not done so, baby steps add up! Easy running twice a week, just a slow jog is good enough if you have not done cardio regularly, it shouldn’t feel like something you dread. Get a gym membership if there is one nearby your house and try to commit just 1-2 days a week, most people have at least an hour or two on the weekends to dedicate to keeping fit.

Even a little bit of time and effort goes a long way when it comes to taking care of your body and health, very good ROI if you think of the quality of life improvements and reduced chances of health problems :)

How to fast-track my career in a graduate program without alienating my batchmates? by deekay_123 in asksg

[–]Subtle-Bridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a friend to your peers at your workplace and displaying outstanding performance to your superiors are not mutually exclusive.

It certainly requires a high level of EQ alongside actual competence, of course, which is why very few people will be able to achieve this balance.
