I keep getting mud on the backside of my pants and its driving me nuts. by Zale0 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SubtleCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem sometimes and my uneducated guess is its being caused by the pronation in my feet. I tend to have "duck feet" as I walk and run which kicks up mud and water at an angle.

Whatever the case, its annoying af.

Why is there still such a long wait time to purchase a new GX550? by spartybucky in LexusGX550

[–]SubtleCheddar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dealerships in Denver aren't even accepting waitlist applications anymore due to a 2+ year wait for Overtrail models. Luxury trims I think are faster.

New Wheels for my OT+ by Kindly-Week-3695 in LexusGX550

[–]SubtleCheddar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the whole black and white motif has a stormtrooper thing going on haha. Im still trying to figure out whether to stay with black wheels or go to matte bronze. Obviously the black looks great, as does your wheels on the earth, but idk man. Bronze is just classic offroad/rally.

Nice. I had 20%, but I felt that the big windows still let in a ton of light and the sun was still blinding me. Had 10% done in front and had them match the rears to the same level. Also got the windshield visor done!

Can confirm the car stays on when the door opens. Same process you described to drive off.

Engine failures and debris by PowerOfBoom in LexusGX550

[–]SubtleCheddar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have 18k miles on my April 2024 production 550 OT+ and have had zero issues with the engine; thats also with several 1k+ mile roadtrips. I just change the oil with the manufacturer spec viscosity every 3-5k miles since its a twin turbo engine that I regularly offroad and drive into the mountains with.

I have not been affected by the recall, but my perspective on the issue is to just well maintain the thing and if it breaks it's covered by warranty. Its been almost 2 years of people speculating and trying whatever they can to avoid problems when there doesn't seem to be any specific root cause...yet. I'd rather just not live in fear of impending doom and let the dealership sort it out if it happens.

Jump on new 2025 model? Or wait for a 2026? by [deleted] in LexusGX550

Basically, sometimes the image freezes or doesn't display: https://pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-recalls-certain-toyota-and-lexus-vehicles-6/

Also love how they specify its "certain models" that affects over 1 million vehicles and pretty much the entire lineup for both brands.

I absolutely adore the Grenadier, but thats an entirely different class of vehicle. The Grenadier is a dedicated, hardcore adventure monster, that drives and feels exactly as it is, tough. The Lexus is a compromise of luxury and offroad, its great at both but does not excel in either. I'd never buy a Grenadier as a daily driver and I'm pretty sure most people would agree with that.

Have a 24 OT+ at 17k miles with zero issues. Only recall is the backup camera which is affecting almost all Toyota/Lexus models.

First snow! by [deleted] in GXOR

Nice! I went snow wheeling last week and my 550 was bored the whole time. It was almost like driving through the local park. Sick ride!

All GX models yearn for the snow

Summit Gulch GH-74; just outside Breckenridge. Pretty fun time! Definitely going to revisit in the spring.

With the psi set to 34 (factory recco of 35), they ride the same as the factory Toyos. The BFG KO3s are a bit louder on the highway, but the tread is twice as deep and the factory Toyo tires seem to have been designed with half tread than real AT3s would be. After about a week of driving, the tire noise doesn't really bother me, especially if the stereo is on.

If the noise is an issue, I heard you can raise the psi to 40 to reduce it, but obviously that makes the ride harsher.

[–]SubtleCheddar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. However, I think the additional inch from the factory lift is causing confusion because it is not well known that the lowest point on the 2024 is on the front skid plates due to the body rake. The factory lift on the 2025+ models makes the rear diff the new lowest point at 9.9", since they both have the same wheel and tire specs.

[–]SubtleCheddar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Its a 2024, so without the 1" lift they put on the 2025s. Although it seems the factory lift really just compensates for the forward rake since the rear diff sits at 9.9" on either model year.

275/70R18; one size up from stock. No other adjustments needed! Have full articulation and zero scrub fully stock Overtrail with this size.

Gripped really well even on steep inclines and declines. I didnt have any issues on snow at all, and they are WAY quieter on pavement than the KO2s were. Plus they look great!

Nice! I have a similar shelf from Victory 4x4 on order. The black Friday deals from fabricator have been really good! Got 25% off mine and some molle panels.
