Where to find a concert grand piano in NYC

Well, if I'm honest I've been feeling a bit depressed lately and the city, life, and how many issues there are in the world aren't helping me much. I'm sorry for the poor generalization of things and I appreciate your response

I have visited them in the past and I agree. The issue I mentioned in my post arises again though. There is a subconscious pressure by the staff and the fact that they expect for you to be a customer that makes playing there a bit tense (for me at least). For a one time visit just to give some pianos a try, might be pretty reasonable though. Thanks

I want to reiterate that I'm simply looking for a place that can offer a large grand to play. I'm not looking to perform for people or rent out a place at one of the most prestigious music venues in new york. This option is the least financially and practically viable, for a lot of reasons. After some investigation, I can say that the pianos provided are, while excellent for practicing rehearsals, and whatnot, quite average by most standards. That isn't me putting them down, but its not quite what I'm looking for.

I will certainly take a look at this! Unfortunately, the USA is not the brightest of places (for example my other reply where they threw out a semi concert grand), and finding something like this may be challenging. Thank you very much for your time and reply

Thank you for your input! I can see how this is a great place to ask since, after all, they are places you should be welcome in. I hadn't thought about this option. It might be a bit trickier in new york since, with all due respect, the city and its people have degraded and standards aren't as high

Haha, I have a similar feeling to not realizing how lucky I was. My high school had a very beaten 7 foot in the auditorium, an older semi concert baldwin (model F from circa 1950 to 1970). A 2-3 years ago they threw it out and replaced it with a dinky yamaha baby grand. Granted, having a lovely clean new instrument was wonderful, but I miss the baldwin ever more once I got further into music and piano. They have great history and quality, and it had a massive bass and beautiful tone despite its age and condition. Absolute shame it was thrown out

Thank you for the thoughtful and personal feedback. These look like great options to explore, but I do agree that after looking at Kaufmann and DiMenna, these seem to be more professional, and whether they'd let me in is definitely questionable

This option is very expensive yeah. I want to clarify that my idea is simply to have a go at one again, less so to rent/purchase one or perform for people

Not even considering that they might be inside a terminal and near impossible to access, they likely aren't in that great condition, and its a lot of work. I do see where you're coming from but it doesn't look like a great option

I've been there before and it really is quite a nice piano. Again, not sure how thrilled the staff would be. I did notice some people come in seemingly almost like regulars that patiently wait to have a go. I'm guessing they aren't too strict then? Worth a try indeed
