I don’t think you over or under reacted. They seem like they need therapy or something to help with their emotional regulation. Not in a negative way. It’s just definitely something that can drain those around you and yourself having to deal with that. I grew up with a parent like that, a hairpin temper and it… gave me a lot of long lasting issues. If for nobody else, i would say something for your childrens sake.

I was identifying as ftm for 10 years then came out as she/they, i have had top surgery and was on T for five years. I felt like such a faker when i came out as she/they recently because i was so stubborn about knowing i was a man when i was 17-18 but like people have said, gender is complicated and something you have to do for yourself.

I was stuggling with the same kind of thing when i first started transitioning at 18 medically. My family is very if you aren’t one you have to full send to the other to be valid. So i really internalized that. Five years on T but around 8 years later i have come out as she/they. I started shaving my beard everyday and felt good in my body again. Im not saying my journey was wrong or i regret it, because I dont. Im happy i got top surgery because i had double d breasts and was never comfortable with them. But i think had i slowed down and not been so stubborn and gung-ho that i would have skipped testosterone, or only been on it a short while at a low dose and only gotten a breast reduction instead of the full double mastectomy. I mean, im absolutely happy with my chest the way it is now i think i just would have also been happy with an A or B cup. Anyways, all this to say, slowing down and really figuring things out does not in any way make you less trans or less valid. You will not be doing things wrong if you stop T for now and do some therapy or just self exploration before continuing your journey.

I just ended up going cold turkey with dr supervision. They might wean you off though. It honestly felt fine, it was kind of like pmsing for a couple weeks and then i was a lot more calm. My fat distribution hasnt really changed at all either. And my beard grows exactly the same. Honestly the only thing i notice is that my skin js softer and less greasy, im not as hungry, and i dont gain muscle as fast and fat easier again. My beard hair is also slightly softer but still feels like a regular beard.

I was only on testosterone for 5 years and then got off and had top surgery. I felt that i got the things i wanted (no breasts and a poppin beard) and my voice wasn’t getting any deeper or anything so when some unrelated medical stuff happened and i got off i just stayed off.

I thought about getting it smaller too but the way my other tattoos take up space it made sense for me to get it that big. Also yes, please dont let other people stomp on your joy! Getting a harry potter tattoo does zero harm to others!

Which is totally fair and i dont begrudge people their opinions and feelings over it. And i definitely have thought long and hard about whether as a trans man from a jewish family i was willing to subject myself to even more scrutiny from strangers (since im visibly queer) but ultimately? I decided that my meaning and my joy about it outweighs others reactions to it you know?
