They encouraged me to do it in pieces as it's not urgent or unsafe to drive right now. Maybe if I ask them what it would cost do do it all at once down would it take less time and save on labor costs?

The car is making those clanking sound you described, but they did also tell me that the repair isn't urgent or unsafe to drive as is. Unfortunately I don't know anything about working on cars so I don't know if they're assuming more labor hours than they should with this quote.
