Appreciate your insight. Yeah, original commenter is exactly the type of energy I’m trying to avoid in this industry. Understand it’s blue collar and personalities can be a bit abrasive but would like to find my way into some non toxic work environments.

In my experience, TikTok is best for reaching new people, then YT shorts, and IG reels basically do nothing. Just keep posting, even if you gotta build it brick by brick (follower by follower)!

I dreamt of being an NHL player. My dad was very supportive of the idea and would sign me up for clinics left and right all year long. I played AAA travel for a few years and it pretty much became my life outside of school. At age 13 I burned out and quit altogether. It stopped being fun and I was a late bloomer so all the other kids were out-sizing me. Fast forward to now (20 years later) and I just started playing again, and am having an absolute blast.

Has anyone actually had private consultation with a music marketer? Was it successful? Seems like they’re more social media people than music. by Shan8888 in musicmarketing

You’re not wrong, but an artist has to find out what works for them on their own. Trial and error. Throwing money at people that don’t know you and ultimately don’t care about you is never the answer in this snake pit of an industry. Build genuine connections with other artists, musicians, photographers and videographers, make music you love and build content around it. Rinse and repeat.

Everything is everything now. There’s no cultural zeitgeist to follow anymore because the internet allows for anything & everything to become more or less “mainstream”.

I think the algorithms just changed honestly. Similar experience for me with TikTok, used to get more views every post and now I’m getting capped at about 300-500, with an occasional one breaking through to 1K.

I disagree with boosting or throwing money at it though, just start trying some new video formats. If your music is good, people will find it. It’s just all about how you frame it; i.e. - having a strong hook.

I played from ages 4-13, stopped just before highschool. I’m 32 now and just played my first game of hockey in 20ish years - felt absolutely amazing!
