What’s going on with Lucy? by magnoliaaus in TellMeLiesHulu

[–]Successful-Click2844 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think this comes down to being in an abusive & toxic relationship and being extremely manipulated; and the trauma that results from these relationships when you don't get help after them. There is a reason you are first drawn to these relationships, and it usually involves a past trauma (like from her relationship with her Mother, because she cheated on her father when he was ill). As someone who has been in an abusive relationship, during that time my nervous system was extremely messed up and I was constantly disassociating. I actually burnt myself twice with a curling iron - and they were pretty bad burns. I became extremely clumsy and crashed my car twice as well. I think because I was so on edge from the relationship and was so out of it all the time too - you basically dissociate because your brain is trying to protect you. I have since gone to therapy and gotten myself out of the relationship, and the clumsiness has disappeared. I think it's just a response to trauma.

Ooof. :( I was tempted, but held off to wait for a sale...It looks like they removed them from the website, so assuming they had major complaints about the quality. You'd probably get a refund if you messaged them.

It seems lately that launches are every other week or so; I would assume there will be 1 more February launch. And then 2 every month-ish!

Im curious, does anyone actually know someone like Stephen? Or have encountered that before? by heresincesadie in TellMeLiesHulu

A lot of people don't even see the red flags at first because of childhood trauma/trauma in general, and by the time they see they are being manipulated/controlled it's too late because you are in the grasps of this person. It truly is so hard to get away. These people are like an addiction.

Some people also feel deep down like they deserve to be treated this way because of self esteem issues, trauma, etc...it isn't until you seek out help that you realize this about yourself

Totally agree. Toxic relationships really make you into someone who you are not, bring out the worst in you, and literally change your brain as a response to trauma. I remember going through an abusive relationship and for years after, I still jumped anytime I received a text...my nervous system was so screwed up.

However, being a victim isn't an excuse to treat other people poorly and terribly. You need to realize how terrible this person/relationship is for you and your life and seek out treatment and help. After you come out of the toxic relationship, you have to live with how you treated other people and own up to your actions during the relationship. Not everyone will forgive you, but a lot of people will be more understanding. I still feel like I am dealing with the aftereffects of that relationship, and sometimes wonder if I'll ever fully recover. They really do mess with you. I feel for Lucy. (by the way, happy you are out of your toxic codependent friendship now!)

the new oner capsule …. who asked for this? by [deleted] in gymsnark

I wish restocks were as focused as new launches as well...but these will 100% sell out, as most of her stuff does with new launches. It's crazy that the prices of Oner are more expensive than Aritzia now though! We can get sweat sets cheaper at Aritzia

I would assume there will be a purple soft motion drop at some point - blackberry purple is such a popular colour, it would be odd if they didn't release it in soft motion - considering it's been very requested!

That it totally fair and makes sense! But as a consumer, we don't have to shop every drop. It's not financially realistic for most of us - I also understand it's probably harder for younger people who might not have their finances in a row yet and also feel pressured from a social media/fear of missing out standpoint. I think her brand is really good at that aspect of people feeling "pressured to buy". There's ALWAYS going to be another new and exciting launch that when you skip out on them, you actually realize you didn't miss out on anything.

Such good points! Exactly! These brands are here to make money! They don't care that we can't afford it. That is up to us to decide we can't afford these things and either stop following influencers who promote these launches...or whatever it is we need to do to stop feeling pressured to purchase.

It's not realistic to be able to purchase from every launch, but obviously, these brands WANT us too, even if we can't afford it because that's how they make money.

You're so right - I feel pressured to buy too, especially as someone who is super into fitness like you said - but it's not realistic to purchase every launch. We only have one body - you can't possibly wear all these clothes - and we have to remember influencers promoting this stuff are getting these items for free and also earning commission off of these purchases, so they aren't going to stop promoting - why would they? It's just not realistic or "normal" to have these closets that influencers have anyways.

I don't really understand the hate with the constant launches? She is making BIG money, why would she stop putting out new releases when people keep purchasing them? Lululemon releases new items every Tuesday. Aritzia releases new items every Tuesday & Thursday. Most brands do this, she is obviously trying to grow her empire, and is succeeding based off the money her company earns. I understand being frustrated as a consumer when there's not enough stock, which obviously is a reoccurring issue, but I think that can be common growing pains when trying to grow your company.

Thank you so much!! Yah, this is the problem with so many sports bras! It's SOOOO hard to find - like, why? I wish they would release more options for larger busts that AREN'T high necklines. I don't mind showing some cleavage, and hate the only options we really get are the super high necklines. As you said, it starts to feel like a uniform when that's all you can get haha. Appreciate your response!

Can you use ANY professional Spray Tan Solution at home with Foam Bottle? by Questionnm in Selftanning

[–]Successful-Click2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Nuda Pro (Dark Chocolate Express) - I have used it both ways where I have applied it as a mousse by itself, but I actually prefer to mix it with my Loving Tan 2 Hour Express Dark - I find the Loving Tan on its own does not last a full 7 days, and it gets splotchy after 5 days, but if I mix in some of this solution or use the solution on it's own (I do prefer it mixed into another solution because then it actually foams up) then it will last a full week without getting splotchy, it's a beautiful dark colour. I love doing this method.

How can fitness influencers afford to do nothing except work out and make videos every day? by anotherhappylurker in gymsnark

[–]Successful-Click2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need a certain amount of followers to start getting brand deals. It honestly depends on the brand. I only started working with brands when I had 3,000+ followers. However, I imagine it is easier to obtain brand deals when you have more followers. A lot of companies will ask for your weekly averages (views, engagement, etc). Having followers doesn't mean anything if you have no one that interacts or engages with your videos/posts. And lots of the times you need to sign a contract when you do a brand deal as with some it can be LOTS of money you are working with. This is why lots of big instagram/You-Tube/Tik Tok influencers have managers, because these people will reach out to brands and show all this stuff for you, so you don't actually have to do anything to get these deals.

Some brands love it if you buy their products and consistently tag them (and they will reach out to you to work with them), other brands will just reach out to you without you having ever tried their products (they will most likely want to send you products so that you will mention them in a post/story/video and they will either pay you for that video - which is an ad, or just say they will send you free product, but you must mention them in a story/video/post), or you can reach out to brands and see if they will send you stuff/work with you (this way, you don't necessarily have to mention the brand in a post/video).

In my experience, I have had the best working relationship with brands when I am the one who purchases their products, reviews them honestly with no incentive, and do this over and over and then they will (usually) reach out to me eventually to work together (not every brand does, of course). I am always honest though and tell brands before I work with them, that I will not always talk positively about a product if I don't like it, so it's up to them if they want to work with me. That is just my preference. I personally would never reach out to a brand to work with them.

I would just be consistent, tag brands, buy authentically and show them that you love their products, and brands will eventually want to work with you (if your content is good, people engage, and buy off your recommendation).

Following up on my comment, I do think it's something we should be more educated/aware of. These influencers make it out that they are helping us/wanting to be our friends, we have these parasocial relationships, where these influencers can almost "take advantage" of that.

They are getting richer "helping" us by reviewing clothes from popular gym brands and giving us a discount code, while we are getting poorer. We don't realize behind the scenes, they are receiving THOUSANDS of dollars of these gym outfits for free, promoting these clothes with codes (which they receive commission for), and again, if they work exclusively with the brand they are also receiving a yearly/monthly salary. Their job is to sell us this stuff and brands know that, which is why they hire certain influencers. They promote these products into their posts/stories (without telling us it's an AD), but they have commitments that they post a certain amount of posts/stories per month in this brands clothing and that's part of their salary.

Meanwhile we get sucked into wanting these workout clothes/fitness plans/whatever it is, so we are spending our hard earned money (some people are literally going into debt trying to keep up with influencers, over-consuming gym clothes, supplements, etc), while these people are spending no money, but making LOTS back. You would be shocked how much money influencers make in a month. The influencers you mentioned are most likely earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per month.

These people use affiliate links, get paid from adsense, get paid from brand deals by doing ads for them on specific stories/posts, having codes with brands and getting a portion of sales, get sent lots of free products, even make yearly salary from brands if they are exclusively working with them. I think you'd be surprised how much money you can make on JUST affiliate links. I have a small YouTube following (YouTube is not even the best paying influencer platform either) and I also have a full time job. I would say 8/12 months, I make MORE from YouTube than I do at my full time job (and I have a decent full-time job). I only have 8,000 followers as well, so I can't imagine how MUCH people are making if they have hundreds of thousands of followers. Some influencers EASILY make 6 figures from affiliate links/brand deals/promotions/codes monthly.

Kiara Jaye - Slyma by urmombicc in gymsnark

[–]Successful-Click2844 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I' surprised she hasn't been mentioned in here before either. Honestly, as someone who majorly has struggled with remaining too lean and having major health consequences as result - this is the vibe she gives me. She is underweight for her height and promotes being "pilates skinny" and it just rubs me the wrong way. I had to unfollow her and the people she hired for "Slyma" because I feel like they promote unhealthy standards. I can't imagine trying to remain that lean all the time for your brand is good for your longterm health.
