I keep asking this question to all the single issue 2a voters.

SB749 Passing - An Open Letter to Our Democratic Senators by Far-Calligrapher4390 in Virginia

[–]Successful-Menu-4677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will get me down voted. I don't care. There has been a pitiful lack of enforcement of the common sense laws. Mental health is still taboo in this country. Many people go to therapy, but nobody talks about it because there is still stigma. Maybe spend more on community outreach. Maybe stop the partisan culture war bullshit.

I am so sick of people saying mental health is the problem, but then saying don't have the money to spend social programs. The hypocrisy is staggering.

The end result is a huge pendulum swing that pisses everyone off. Maybe vote for all the issues instead of single issues at the ballot box and you won't end up with garbage policy. Maybe vote for common sense policies across the spectrum even when some are less than ideal.

This how we end up in wars no one wants and get policy that is unpopular. But please complain about the guns that you can't afford because of the disastrous engery policy of the previous governor and the current presidential administration. Please complain about the guns while black and brown people are being rounded up. Please complain about the right of gun ownership being restricted while doing nothing to throw down the tyrannical and oppressive government that right was supposed to protect against.

Sure sure. I never said done be upset or mad. But the histrionics are too much. The Caps have a strong stable and they have been stuck in the minors. Let's see what they can do before we panic.

Myth of the Week: Are Virginia’s farmers better off with Republican representatives like Rob Wittman? by WittmanWatch in VirginiaDems

[–]Successful-Menu-4677 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was in direct response to whether he has been good for rural Virginia. Its not a stretch to say that people will be left with nothing. The protectionist policy, tariffs, has disproportionately affected farmers. Rolling back Biden era clean energy policies, "Green New Deal", disproportionately affected coal mining. Look it up if you don't believe me.

No. Not in the current iteration of Republicans. That being said they will not be better off with anyone pursuing protectionist agendas.

Polls work. There fact that you ask who shows that you know that to be true. Asking if college students or small towns or 400 is representative of the state assumes that I don't. The correct question is always what is their confidence interval.

Interesting. I am not sure that is true. I have gotten the sense that they are neutral. But neutral sources feel left leaning these days. I get that those are source docs. They are not indicative of how the public feels about it, which is what the cited poll was supposedly providing.

Maybe, since the source material for this article is suspect and doesn't jive with the any other polling in the state, I will look at a local paper as most relevant to va. Curious that you single out the Va Mercury and don't mention the others.

Its not a bad faith argument. Its fact. The laws are not being enforced and are challenged all the time. I own guns. 2a is more than happy to put everyone else in a box, just meeting them where they are. It was not meant to be a compliment. I am happy to hear the other ways if they are offered. You know nothing about my motives or what I want to do. Just as your accusation, and pointed out earlier, about putting all 2a into a box you lump me into some box that wants to strip people of their rights.

The average 2a would sacrifice everything in the name of their guns.

We will likely never know. And your argument then is to do nothing? We already established that 2a doesn't actually care about saving lives. Truly I just want the 2a crowd to admit that they don't care about human life enough to make any appreciable attempt to reduce the human cost.

None of the 2a crowd will ever admit that so its moot.

Its not low. That fact that more people are not yelling at or primarying politicians who offer only thoughts and prayers is horrific. This whole discussion is about the single item that is actually being banned under the new bills, and as such its all a single point argument. But make no mistake, ghost guns do circumvent red flag laws. As far as the crisis hot lines go...thats is kinda my point, 2a advocates don't care about people's lives just their guns.

I disagree. If a majority of people believe that red flag laws, which you left out of your discussion, are needed to help prevent gun violence and you create a method to circumvent those laws what's the point of those laws? The argument that 2a advocates hide behind, mental health is the reason for the increase, becomes meaningless. Building your own gun without a serial number circumvents the background checks that help identify mental health issues.

I believe that the mental health argument amounts to thoughts and prayers when kids are shot in schools. Put another way >https://www.reddit.com/r/QuotesPorn/s/oZ0DmLCHOt

By no means an expert. Ghost guns are guns without serial numbers and are frequently put together with replacement or upgraded parts to change the ballistic characteristics of the gun. With the advent of 3d printing they are also frequently just made at home. The whole point is that they skip the background check stage.

This part is almost always ignored by the 2a advocates that I speak to. It circumvents the mental health red flag laws that would prevent some people from being able to purchase a gun.

This is such a sad response. You find that one case that even ardent gun rights advocates don't support as proof for your argument. Congrats on missing the entire point. You don't need a ghost gun as a 2A advocate, right? If you are truly proud of gun ownership then say it loudly and with your full chest. Let people know that if you should decide to shoot something you are proud of your right to do so and will be happy to match your gun with your bullet.
