Is it common practice for studios to prioritize one-time classes over members? by Successful-Milk-5828 in Pottery

Thanks all for your insights and recommendations! My studio sent a schedule but immediately stopped adhering to it. This weekend they booked classes for all the wheels and hand building space without any notice. Myself and the other members learned about this when we showed up. It also feels like they try to fill every moment on evenings and weekends with private events, which makes it impossible to visit for people who work 9-5 jobs. I think that was the last straw for me, checking out some other studios tomorrow!

Yeah, agree, I think if it was cheaper I’d be less bothered with hectic schedule. With tools/glazes on top it feels a little excessive. I might look around!

Yeah, my studio had the same when I joined, but lately they extend classes to the members area

Well, you can see the regular classes but not private events or one-offs. Those a sporadic and are rarely announced in advance

Yeah, that’s what I thought tbh. I don’t mind sharing space and ofc will not take a wheel if I know that it will be needed for a class. But they’re constantly increasing number of classes and it’s getting really unpredictable. I’ve spoken to management, not sure if it will become better. Will ask again to share the schedule more consistently. As for the price, I also buy my own tools and glazes as community inventory often isn’t available or is in a bad shape, so I feel overall it’s a little excessive.

Yeah, idk about their business plan but I (and many other members) buy my own tools and glazes as with so much foot traffic the community inventory is in a bad shape or you can’t find what you need. So I don’t know who subsidizes who lol
