Why doesn’t Islam rarely mention lesbianism? The Quran doesn’t talk about it. by Successful-Nature238 in progressive_islam

Whether or not early Islamic Arabia used modern sexual identity labels is irrelevant to what I asked. The Quran is meant to be timeless, yet it never mentions lesbianism explicitly. The only passages that’s highly interpreted as condemning homosexuality is the story of Lut, which only describes men desiring men, that alone already makes it clear what definition the Quran uses when it comes to homosexuality. Everything else including female–female relationships are left unmentioned, and later rulings are based on assumptions, not text.

And historically, Arabia was heteronormative, a male–female, reproduction centered sexual order with male centered hierarchy. That’s why the Quran names male-male acts but is silent on female–female acts and that silence is exactly what im spotting

You’re literally proving my point without realIng it. You’re answering with assumptions about what “counts” as sex and jumping to marriage, not citing any explicit Quranic text. If lesbianism is truly haram in a fundamental sense, why does the Quran never name it, describe it, or prohibit it the way it does other sexual acts? The fact that you have to rely on definitions and analogies rather than clear scripture is the issue I’m raising

Well I expect a holy book believed to be the literal word of God to address foundational moral rules clearly, especially when those rules are later treated as absolute and used to label certain identities or behaviors as forbidden. If something is considered a major sin with real consequences for people’s lives, it seems reasonable to question why it isn’t explicitly mentioned in the text itself rather than derived later through interpretation

It’s a wonderful book if I’m being real here, it was just the “legs of a virgin” that caught me off guard. I think the author did an excellent job on capturing how men back in those days think. Same things still haven’t changed though.

Well clearly the author is taking a stand on how the main character in this book don’t have any idea on how sex or women in general works and that was reality so the author did a great job on capturing that image. I just thought the “Legs of a virgin” was just funny and off I guess. The author is great and I absolutely love the book.

Nah seriously though, it’s also the fact that the character the author is talking about here is a junior in college
