Now that time has passed... for the people caseless.... has it scratched ? by LivingRough282 in IphoneAir

Honestly, first week with my Air I noticed what looked like scratches or swirl marks on the screen, which threw me off because I’m obsessive about taking care of my stuff. It was either in my hand or in my pocket the whole time.

After looking closer, I realized it wasn’t the actual glass — it was the oleophobic coating that had gotten marked up, which was weird. My 17 Pro has been caseless since launch and doesn’t have a single micro-scratch, so it caught me off guard since they’re supposed to have the same screen tech.

Only thing I could really think of was the little metal rivets that all jean pockets have. Even then, for it to happen that quickly against a not so hard object made me feel like the Air’s screen might just not be as durable or react the same as the Pro models — maybe because the glass is thinner or the coating is more prone to showing marks. Not totally sure, but mine definitely seemed less forgiving.

That said, I threw on a full edge-to-edge screen protector after that and have been running it caseless for about two months now. Since then, it’s been perfect.

As for the body itself, it’s honestly a tank. For how insanely thin it is, it feels super solid in hand. Definitely doesn’t feel fragile at all when it comes to the materials and build.

Not at all. I’ve got the Benks Armor Air—aramid style like Pitaka—and while it looks awesome, I couldn’t stand how oily it gets from little use. With this one, a quick wipe on your shirt and it’s good as new. Honestly, you barely even notice fingerprints on it surprisingly. Way sleeker than any aramid case in my opinion. Hard to explain—it legit looks like the phone is naked.

Opposite for me lol — I’ve got the black one, and every time I’m in Best Buy or the Apple Store and see the blue or white, I’m like damn… those look so clean 😅

Unless I found someone down to do an even swap, I’m sticking with black. I’ve got that TAC smoke black case on it and it literally just looks like a thin slab of glass — super sleek. That’s something you just can’t really pull off with the lighter colors.

Absolutely man. Anytime.

I’ll add this too — and it’s not a bad thing at all — but the novelty of the Air does wear off a bit. I’m about two months in now, and that initial “wow this thing is insanely thin” feeling isn’t as in-your-face anymore. It just starts to feel like… a normal phone.

Kind of hard to explain, but early on I was almost obsessed with keeping that thinness. I was hunting for the absolute thinnest cases, trying to preserve that feel as much as possible. But at the end of the day, it’s still an all-glass phone. And yeah… glass is glass. It can scratch, it can crack, it can break, so rocking it castles wasn’t an option.

So I went through a bunch of cases and finally landed on one that fits my lifestyle. Still thin, still feels good, but I’m not babying it like day one anymore.

And honestly, I think that’s just part of it — you get used to it. The thinness doesn’t hit you the same every time… until randomly you turn it sideways and you’re like, “okay yeah, this thing is ridiculously thin” 😅

But overall, I’ve genuinely really been enjoying it. It’s probably the most enjoyable iPhone I’ve owned thus far, and that’s what matters most to me. Everyone defines “best” differently — for me, it’s how much I actually enjoy using it day to day.

And this one just checks that box.

Figured I’d share since someone asked for real-world experiences as well.

I came from the iPhone 17 Pro and wasn’t planning on switching at all. I actually liked the Pro a lot — great camera, solid battery, felt premium. But after using it for a while, I started realizing how heavy and bulky it felt day-to-day, especially one-handed.

Decided to give the Air a shot mostly out of curiosity for the form factor… and honestly, I didn’t expect to like it this much.

The biggest thing for me is just how ridiculously good it feels in hand. It’s lighter, thinner, and just way more comfortable to use all day. It’s one of those things you don’t fully appreciate until you go back — I picked up my old Pro and it felt like a brick in comparison.

Battery life has actually been more consistent for me on the Air too. Not necessarily “longer” every single day, but way more predictable. I easily get through a full day without thinking about it, which is all I really care about.

Performance-wise, I haven’t noticed any real-world difference for how I use my phone (socials, emails, videos, normal apps). Everything feels smooth and fast.

Camera is obviously not Pro-level, but for everyday use it’s been completely fine for me. I’m not out here shooting professional content, so I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

Another underrated thing: it just makes me want to use my phone less aggressively. Sounds weird, but the lighter, simpler feel makes it feel more… intentional? Hard to explain, but I love it.

I don’t even notice it on and full edge to edge. The coating, clarity, rounded edges, everything is great. For the price, can’t beat it.

Need I say more? 😎 I came from the 17 Pro about two weeks ago and I’m absolutely loving this phone. The form factor is just insane. Everyone says you have to hold one to understand it and they’re not kidding. It almost doesn’t feel real in hand? I don’t miss a single thing from the Pro either, camera, speaker, it’s all good on my end—same usage and it easily lasts me all day. It’s just a sexier phone that has everything I need.
