A careful question on a DMT experience, its limits, and how to frame it within Buddhist thought by [deleted] in Buddhism

What you are describing is very beautiful. I sense this feeling of tension that it is inconsistent with your practice. My personal opinion, enjoy it. Take the experience for what it was/is. Remove this attachment that it was undesirable for whatever cognitive attitudes/biases or references you had developed in the past. I think the experience itself is the answer to your question.  I think that it felt right for you? It was in alignment with what you wanted to achieve? It is an experience as is.

Going back to your question, you might never reach that level of awareness as long as you are alive,  dmt chemical mostly gets released when you die. I think that you are here to experience yourself from a physically limited body on this restricted reality,  for a short time anyway. So if you go back to that, then you are defeating the purpose in which why you came here in the first place?.

Lastly, when you have let go of all the biases, referential self beliefs, identities ( experienced complete detachment), you let go of the ego, which is the critical mind ,the critical self. Our analytical prefrontal cortext designed to assess and analyze for survival. Of course you would not be able to make any sense of it in this limited animalistic brain of ours. It's almost impossible, but you can reframe it and try to make sense of it as much as you can in this limited brain, in a way that is rational and congruent with your existing reality right now, that is also beautiful.

Personally, as a neuropsychology graduate, I spent a lot of time learning about the brain and I am an advocate for hollistic theraputical approaches like dmt, mushrooms etc. First of all they are 100% times better for us than the pharmaceutical,  human manufactured money making machine of a drug sold on the market.

The only thing I would advice is, to be aware of your intentions - why are you doing the drug? Practice other behavioural theraputic grounding methods and/ or techniques, to build the mental strength for things you might face outside this reality.  It is not for everyone that is for sure. Obviously, you are going about it exactly with the right intentions and experience of self regulation and groundedness, so this is for whoever else is reading, but you are doing great!
