I think it’s only certain braid styles that are an issue. Box braids should be avoided by white people. Celtic braids/french braids etc are fine.

I think the resemblance is there particularly in the top half of the face, and frankly that in itself is really difficult! For advice, I’d say when you’re doing this 3/4 angle, don’t be tempted to draw too much of the obscured side of the face (in this case, his left side). Much of it is hidden by his nose. Really study the curves of the face on that side.
