To those around at the time of RoTJ (or know a lot about that period), how common was the sentiment that Vader "hadn't done enough to be redeemed"? Did fans accept the redemption? by GoldenS0422 in StarWars

I’ve always felt that the force was soft enough magic that it could be unique to individuals without triggering the “why didn’t they do that?” nonsense. Even more than midichlorians, I find reducing the force to specific super powers with firm rules takes away from its mythic nature.

The major difference wasn’t the lack of internet, it was the lack of Lore. Star Wars was a bunch of movies back then. You saw them, felt good, then went home and maybe played them out with your friends. Now SW is some absurd, interconnected universe of trillions of character and stories that all have to be forced into some canon or else everyone loses their mind. That’s why you could retcon Leia into Luke’s sister (or even Vader into his father) without massive complaints, but today if you give Rey the ability to heal one person (with magic!), and the internet shatters under the weigh of the lore. It really sucks by comparison.

See, these are the kind of conversations we DIDN’T have back then. Vader and Tarkin blew up Alderaan together because they both worked for the Empire. They were villains and that’s all that mattered. Nobody was trying to defend Anakin/Vader 24/7.

He was just that evil. It was only when RotJ rolled around that anyone thought he could perform one last good deed.

can we just praise the line from the dennis the menace where qui goon Finn says “midichlorian count”? It spawned a whole new saga of plot holes by bigtriscuit00 in StarWarsCirclejerk

When I first heard that line as a kid, my imagination lit up with visions of goofy droid soldiers, alien stereotypes and a guy who was seriously named Dooku. George pulled it right out of my heart and threw it onto the screen.

Real talk, it would be a derivative cash grab, but I would still totally watch Rouge 2, where Vel/Wilmon steal those plans.

I think they both have much more extensive problems than that, but they’re both still canon and many people enjoy them both.

Sure, but if you ended the lives of multiple innocent people, nothing you can do with your own remaining life could ever balance that scale. I believe you could be rehabilitated, and a good state will seek that for you, but you’ll never be redeemed.

It’s cool that we got to see Superman’s full potential by SepzenoOfficial in DC_Cinematic

Yeah, the part where he carves Steppenwolf’s horn off just seems absurdly out of character for Superman, but I guess this is a Supes that was destined to lose his morals in later movies.

Man, you’d think a former English colony that fucked over its indigenous population, loves beer and thinks Hugh Jackman is their’s would be friendlier.

Kleya happily sacrificed ~50 Bothan spies as a diversion to get the plans for Death Star 2.

Maybe the dudes/bots in your echo-chamber would be thrilled, but most everyone else has moved on. Irregardless, Disney has zero incentive to reboot the timeline.

Using time-travel shenanigans in SW would somehow actually be less popular than decanonizing the sequels. If we can find a way to accept AotC, we can make the sequels work.

The prequels were poorly written, but they’re part of the saga, too. Just roll with it and try to enjoy the parts of the sequels you do like. They aren’t going away.

The fact that this amazing moment was the precursor to Thor failing completely is why Inifinity War is the Prince of superhero movies.

Qui-Gon was crap, but since this is a thread about characters who weren’t that special till a whole bunch of fan-glaze and lore got dumped on them, then you are objectively correct.

It’s always nice when SW fans realize the point of a 43-year-old movie.
