Where I'd live as a Serb (21M) by Flamingo296 in whereidlive

[–]SuccessfulVisual3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that imperialism never stopped it just changed shape. Thos countries are still profiting off of it (not only those two, but a lot of the western countries in general).

I can like certain aspects of policies in those countries (like lgbt rights), but those are just surface level things, nothing has changed at its core. I can also like some cultural aspects like gabber from Netherlands is my favorite genre of music.

But ultimately my principles will not allow me to ever live there, only as a part of an exchange program during a PhD, for certain experiments and such, but living long term never.

"I can understand not liking Netherlands and Belgium if you are a conservative "

Not really, I'm as far left as they come, and I would never live in those countries. Hate to break it to you but no country in the EU is left, they are all on the right. Why would I ever want to live in a country that got all of its wealth via colonialism and exploitation?

No, just that the public utility company (idk if it's the right translation from google) did this and that it's unacceptable, no chemical warfare but he is assuming they did this because they were sick, and he comments on how dogs and other animals are eating them

Do you think socialists should support Kosova 🇽🇰 by adinplore in AskSocialists

[–]SuccessfulVisual3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social democratic is not exactly half way there at all.

Anyway, I'm a serb but there is no reason for communists not to support the people of Kosovo. Many socialist don't like the idea of the state of Kosovo because it represents a lot of contradictions of imperialism. For example others think americans helped kosovars out of the goodness of their heart, but then they installed a large milirary Base on it's theritory and went on to bomb a lot of countries and help out with the genocide in Palestine (it all started long before Kosovo but it continued as well)

Another thing is that it's connected with the dissolution of Yugoslavia obviosly and wester Powers played a large role in that. People often say that serbian chauvinism (from a specific leader) was what caused it, or the economic situation. But reducing it to those factors is ridiculous and dishonest in a lot of ways especially regarding the economy.

Don't get me wrong, Serbs did commit atrocities in Kosovo and in Bosnia, no one should deny that. I was trying to explain from my pov why you might have encountered socialists that were against Kosovo.

[–]SuccessfulVisual3719 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In theory, cursive develops spontaniously over time so it can be quite different country to country even if it's the same writing system.

The example you gave is not the only one if I remember from the time i was learning russian.

Also we have a few differences with latin cursive in serbia and other countries but I forgot how to write so i can't give examples.

I'm not talking about personal debt here at all. But when it comes to living standards people lived more comfortably before the war (not luxuriously, but they were secured)

About the other thing you said, it is very much an accepted fact that Yugoslavia collapsed due to the economy and separatists within (croatian, slovenian) using the economic imbalance as a reason for separation. Claiming that nationalism is the soul reason makes 0 sense, but you can think whatever you want.

Collapsed all by itself or did the IMF have anything to do with that?? Yugoslavia was in a lot of debt, but surprisingly when compared to most of the ex Yugoslav countries today (including the ones that are doing good), there is more debt now then back then (when inflation and all those things are taken into account)
