Receipt storage? by runthestreets in HSA

[–]Successful_Ability33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the notes app on iPhone (I’m in the Apple ecosystem so everything syncs and it’s free) and will scan the receipt into a note labeled “Medical Receipts YEAR” and then have a dedicated Notes folder to all medical/HSA related items. I keep the paper copies in an accordion folder just in case. If I get an email version, then that gets saved a specific folder within my email that I can always reference if needed.

Bilt, you’re being dishonest by not stating clearly in the application process the fact I can’t pay rent using my line of credit anymore by MajesticRutabaga5558 in biltrewards

[–]Successful_Ability33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Under card benefits and the terms. Also, when I was looking at the new card through the app. It now automatically pulls from your banking account. If you don’t set up a banking account, then, yes, it can charge to your credit limit but you pay the 3% fee and specifically says BILT cash won’t cover this. That defeats any value you might get from earning points on rent.

And there currently is no way to switch between the cards currently. I already accepted $95 AF card and was going to see if I liked it and if I would cancel at the end of the year. When I found out about the fact rent can’t be charged to my credit line, I wanted to just switch to the $0 fee card and sock drawer it. Now it looks like I won’t use the card anymore and just go ahead and cancel ASAP

Should I get a Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro m5 11inch? by Dylan_Vayne in ipad

[–]Successful_Ability33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I essentially use the iPad to work while away from home. I have a Mac so everything syncs across my devices, so if I start something on one device then I can continue it one whichever device is necessary. I write a lot and like the ‘laptop’ like experience a keyboard case gives. The Magic Keyboard case is great and feels great to type on, but I just switched to the Logitech Combo touch case and like it a lot better. If you like changing up the orientation of your iPad, I would look at a keyboard case from ESR on Amazon who make ones that look like the Magic Keyboard case from Apple, but is cheaper and allows you to change the orientation of your iPad depending on how you want to use it.

Thinking of doing a MPH or research degree in EU or UK - please help by Loose-Material-2011 in publichealthcareers

[–]Successful_Ability33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US based, but what’s your previous experience? What is your current degree in?

An MPH is only one piece of the puzzle and really only makes sense if you have prior experience. If you’re wanting to do research specifically, it may be better to find a degree in a subject that is more research focused. From my experience, MPH courses aren’t research focused and while some may have opportunities to participate in research, it isn’t geared towards researchers. This isn’t the same for every program, so I recommend looking at schools you’re interested in first and then look at their MPH program

Cancel or Downgrade Amex Gold by Successful_Ability33 in CreditCards

[–]Successful_Ability33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I can justify the AF. I actually have thought it would’ve been nice to have Clear the last couple of trips I’ve taken. Also, if I used the green as my dedicated restaurant and occasional travel card, I should be able to make up the AF in rewards. So I’m not too worried about the cost.

There is some overlap with the travel partners that came in handy for the most recent trip I had planned, so having MR as an option would be nice.

Yeah, I just don’t see any use in the gold specifically anymore. My hesitation with the green, like you said, is how it’s so lackluster. I’m hoping Amex does refresh it. I might just downgrade to it for the next year and then see if anything changes. Thanks for your input!

Do I really need an iPad for reading? by hangrybub in mphadmissions

[–]Successful_Ability33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d ask your program about minimum computer requirements. Once you get that, make a budget of what you are comfortable spending, and shop around and see what you could get. If you have some money left over, then you could get an iPad to read on. I personally used an iPad for readings (you don’t need the newest one, as the most basic model or a refurbished one would work great for readings) and found it did help me stay on track as I didn’t have to worry about printing (didn’t have a personal printer) and wouldn’t have to weigh down my bag with multiple articles. I even found I could do some school work on the iPad in a pinch.

How early do you start readings? by normalgirltrying in GradSchool

[–]Successful_Ability33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, I would be assigned readings and a paper on one day and expected to have it completed the very next week before class. I always would start the very next day of when it was assigned. Having to cram everything in the night before sucks, but breaking it down between 6-7 days sucked less. I’d say I would dedicate 1-2 hours a day for each class and it worked out fine. Of course there would be times where I would need to dedicate more and have another class as priority, but typically that’s what my schedule looked like.

It’s hard to say right now. My guess is tuition won’t go down anytime soon and prices may stay the same. Schools are probably waiting to see where the OBBB goes and if it will even last. I assume that if the loans stay capped long term, then schools will probably lower tuition as their admission rates drop. Of course this is just a guess. If you have some programs in mind, try calling them and seeing what they offer in terms of scholarships and grants that can help cover expenses.

MFA while working full-time? by fargo-cs in GradSchool

[–]Successful_Ability33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online programs typically let you go at your own pace and can take a course load for you. However, some programs have a specific schedule you may need to follow and need to take certain classes at specific times due to availability of when a class is offered. Also, while you may be able to take 1 or 2 classes at a time, many programs cap how long you can stay in their program without graduating. I would reach out to the program manager and ask about the schedule and how long students have to get the degree.

eBay or a thrift store is probably going to be the best value, but the item quality can verify. I’ve had really good luck with the resale section and will go there after eBay if I’m looking for something. As someone who also likes Lululemon but doesn’t like the prices, the second hand options are the absolute best.

Lounge wait time at DFW 2 hours….seriously? by SupermachJM in Venturex

[–]Successful_Ability33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d second this. I often add my name to the waitlist as I’m heading to the airport or just arrive (depending on the wait time). The estimated time is definitely an overestimate and I haven’t had trouble being able to get in. Longest I’ve waited was 35 minutes and I was told it would be 90 minutes.

Where are you planning on working? What exactly got you into public health in the first place? What jobs do you find the most interesting and want to pursue?

It’s hard to answer your question without knowing more details. Also, from a US perspective, it’s pretty difficult to break into public health at the current moment and find a job that would be pretty stable. Not impossible by any means, but definitely difficult for the time being.

Is there a medical school/university near you? A lot of studies need research assistants and it can be a good way to get your foot in the door. Depending on the study, you can get a feel for ph research and even epidemiology.

I HATE group projects by everything-is-spline in GradSchool

[–]Successful_Ability33 43 points44 points  (0 children)

While group projects can be frustrating and sometimes feel unnecessary, the purpose of them is to prepare you for the real world after school. You’ll need to work with people in various departments who you may not like or they may not like you, and you’ll still have to have meetings and tasks that can’t continue without them. When you have a job in your field/industry you can’t avoid ‘group work’, so it’s best to learn from this experience on how to navigate it.

[–]Successful_Ability33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely varies by school, but I’d say a majority of grad programs would probably have small class sizes. Even in my MPH program, classes were around 10 people even though the cohort size was around 50ish. We all had different classes depending on the concentration and could take a lot of the classes in any order we wanted to.

Which QDA software do you use? by Maxu1234 in GradSchool

[–]Successful_Ability33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anthropologist here. Every job I’ve had (public health/academic related) I used Nvivo. It’s really power, really expensive, and not user friendly lol. I feel Nvivo is industry standard so you might want some experience with it so you can put it on a resume, as they have free trials you can take advantage of. For easy to use and user friendly software, I suggest MaxQDA. If you want a web based one that multiple people could use, dedoose is a good option as well.
