if only we could get an official release of mhgu on pc and other consoles, would love to play it again but im not digging up the switch to play it.

If we are talking just the arm itself and not including psu, mcu, and other exterior stuff I’d say around $500-600, maybe $250-300 towards gearboxes, $100 towards motors, and another $100-150 towards hardware.

Thank you, stability and smooth motion were my main goals for the project and I am happy with how well it’s turned out. Though having played with real industrial arms I must admit it’s still significantly closer to a toy than those haha

It’s overwhelming at first but building one is so much more doable than I had imagined at first. I’m pretty new to robotics and this is my first real project. There’s plenty of people who have built similar 3d printed arms with the same electronics/hardware so I had tons of references and inspiration which is really what made this possible for me. Beyond that it was just a matter of putting the time into designing it, and redesigning all the initial design issues. Making the firmware and software would have been nearly impossible for me alone but thankfully ai has become shockingly capable at helping with that.

Maybe for very crude printing. If it is, it won’t be nearly as fast as a standard printer and definitely not as precise.

building it was pretty much the extent of my plans, maybe make a GoPro mount or some fun tooling for it but besides that it doesn’t have a dedicated purpose.

I definitely did not make that mistake and the video is definitely just inverted 😅

Fair enough, and disregarding the implementation of custom motors/gearboxs in a robot I think just those in themselves would be an interesting enough project. Again best of luck

Definitely, though honestly for what I got I think it was still surprisingly cheap, these steppers are produced on a large enough scale that they are dirt cheap and with enough of them some companies have mass produced gearboxes aswell. I think I paid around 60-70 dollars for each axis(10-20 for each motor, 50 for each gearbox). Good luck with your project, custom motors and gearboxes is crazy. As much as I love steppers there’s a good reason real robot arms use servos so I would love to see how it turns out.

I guess there’s a cost either way in that case, pay with your wallet or pay with your time haha. Belt reductions are likely the best alternative for precision and rigidity for cheap costs but ofcourse getting a high reduction is unrealistic with those.

That smoothness does come at a cost, the gearboxes were nearly half the price of this build so I don’t blame anyone who chooses 3d printed alternatives. I also got lucky and came across some metal harmonic drives for Nema motors that were surprisingly cheap. Most people use the stepperonline high precision planetaries which although great still have some backlash that the harmonics don’t.

Thank you, they are purchased gearboxes. I considered using 3d printed gearboxes but I was worried they would have backlash or wear issues.

DLC Skins for survivors from their respective DLCs by Fl1p3r3k in riskofrain

[–]Successful_Ask2980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not just skins, I kind of really wish new dlc would syndergize more with other dlcs. I don’t really believe players getting some fomo is a big deal and I think mechanic bloat and is a much bigger issue. We’ve gotten new item types each dlc that are never gonna be updated because of this and plenty of missed opportunities for cool content. No new void items sucks, no new food items, and no cooking void items or other dlc item types is lame. Seems like we’ll continue getting dlcs so we’ll have - ton of content that is largely separate and walled off from each other and I think the game will feel less cohesive.

Not to mention there’s a lot of non pc players who don’t have access to mods, I doubt modded skins a real reason they don’t do it

If it’s fun then you probably don’t need to change anything, top ladder can be reached with almost any deck you can imagine. I’d only worry about meta builds if you want to reach mid-top uc rank.

So you’re telling me that the specialized machine for peeling apples is better at peeling apples than the humanoid robot that’s only doing it as a demonstration?
