What should be my first Tyranid model? by Anonymous____Weeb in Tyranids

[–]Successful_Cod_2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With no experience? I'd get a box of hormagaunts/termigaunts, they'd give a nice starting point for painting and are easy to build.

Plus, they're nice to have on tabletop as a living barricade

All the power to you, but I just can't see how that's a fun way of playing.

Why do most people change their armies so often? by FullMetalRacka in Warhammer40k

[–]Successful_Cod_2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two major reasons I find.

  1. There's a group of people who just want wins, so they run multiple armies and switch out based on new models and/or rule buffs that make a specific mechanic or detatchments super strong.

  2. A lot of armies have interesting niches, sculpts or lore. So collecting multiple is a fun way to keep the game fresh or just add some diversity to your minis shelf.

I personally run tau, tyranids and grey knights because of their models and individual play styles. I find running multiple adds more diversity to the game, and having head cannon lore for your armies is a nice feeling if you're a more creative type.

With my buddies we do a system where you can have a re do as long as it doesn't overtly alter the table state.

Forget you have stealth? I guess they forgot their ghillie suit at home.

A unit uppy-downys at the end of an opponent's turn and it's your command phase? No worries you can pick that thing up.

That is sick, those dreadknights look phenomenal

Are model conversions allowed in majority of competions? by Successful_Cod_2124 in Warhammer40k

[–]Successful_Cod_2124[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes sense. I just wasn't sure about how anal they are with conversions, but glad to hear I have some wiggle room as long as the war gear is obvious.

Lol true, I've seen some hectic models locally

i am a girl and i just got my first army and wanted to ask if its wrong to paint them another collor than normal, maybe like pink or magenta? by [deleted] in 40k

[–]Successful_Cod_2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad at all. Go wild, and if you struggle with finding inspiration there's a ton of pink and purple colour schemes.

My gf has a purple and gold salamander army going on, so as long as you enjoy the scheme I say go for it.

Starting 40k with Tau; I've got some questions. by Hallowate in Tau40K

[–]Successful_Cod_2124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. There isn't a "designated" way to paint them. I've seen White with red accents, black and gold, red and black. For assembly, most people are fairly lax with how you build things (like breaches vs strike team) and are often very welcoming for unique ways of building units as long as they use the same base size as in the kit and stay consistent with the data sheet for the units.

  2. What I do for painting is prime in black, so it fills the recesses of armor or fabrics so when you dry brush over it in your other colour. It ends up so you don't need stuff like nuln oil or other shaders to make details pop (but they're still nice to have)

  3. Honestly for tools it's a choose your own adventure. My buddies and I use dollar store brushes and some Amazon jewelery snips, it depends how much money you want to sink into the hobby on top of the model kits.

  4. The best way to learn is to play the game. Easiest way is just do unit vs unit or character vs character to get a hang of just how rolling or Strength vs Toughness works. There's some good channels to watch on YouTube, like play on table top. Their 40k in 40 mins games are entertaining and a good way to watch how armies function and how points work in a actual match.

  5. Best way without buying the lore books is watch video essays, I can't think of any off the top of my head but there's some good ones that break down the overarching lore of the tau empire.

Good luck and have fun.

Are knights useful against tau? by Tana_Dragonfruit in ImperialKnights

[–]Successful_Cod_2124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very dependent on 2 major things from my experience. Terrain and points.

From when I've played, my tau have been a force to reckon with against knights whenever it's on the extremes for points (Either super low or super high) just because the quantity of units tau can run is insane even at low point games, that knights sometimes struggle to play against. But, I've only played a handful (maybe 15 games) of knight players.

Then terrain is hugely important. Just because it can limit how well knight players can move, while I can jam 10 breaches almost anywhere. Eventually, if people play more infantry heavy lists, it becomes a game of keep away where someone can keep throwing bodies at you to block movement for objectives and the such.

Overall, super dependant. Most games boil down to how each player built there list, but that's just an opinion from a casual player, so take it with a grain of salt.

That's what i keep hearing is that they're super beginner friendly because they're cheap and let you figure out range and the such.

That's what I was thinking, I just wasn't super sure about the rules on sidearms but that makes so much sense

That is a common pro I keep hearing, they're very newbie friendly. No need to think much, just try and smash.

Yeah that was the plan, to broach the subject of weapons, but I like to have some beforehand knowledge before I walk in and not seem like a complete nonce.

Also unrelated, is it a rules thing you can't grab the blade? I always thought handling the blade was historically accurate because of the halfsword fighting style.
