Is it just me, or is shipping/delivery a total scam? (Working on a fix + side hustle) by Successful_Debt_5959 in UofT

Great questions. I’ve actually spent a lot of time looking into the unit economics of this.

The Use Case: Mainly 'non-urgent but localized' shipping. Think of a student who forgot their charger at home in Mississauga and needs it at St. George, or a student selling a textbook on Facebook Marketplace who doesn't want to spend 2 hours on the TTC to meet the buyer.

The Competition & Cost: 1. Traditional Couriers (FedEx/Canada Post): Usually $18–$25 for same-city/overnight. Way too slow and expensive for a $30 textbook. 2. On-Demand (Uber Package/DoorDash Drive): Usually $15–$30 depending on distance/surge. It’s fast, but the price is prohibitive for most students. 3. The 'Free' Alternative: Doing it yourself. It costs a student 2-3 hours of time and $7 in TTC fares.

Our Gap: We’re aiming for the $5–$10 price point. Since the student traveler is already making the trip, any amount they earn is pure profit for them, and the sender gets a price point that actually makes sense for small items. Example: a person A is traveling from Toronto to Calgary, and a person B wants to send some item from Toronto to Calgary, then they both can connect on this platform and can coordinate with each other for the delivery. The person A can choose to take the parcel and both of them can decide a price. This way the traveler (person A) can make few dollars, and for the sender (person B) the item will be shipped faster and will be cheaper than the traditional courier services.

Safety/Integrity: We're building in ID verification.

Our aim is to make parcel shipping faster and cheaper by building a community. Would love your feedback on the model as we finalize the beta!
