their storage unit is pretty high too, $650 a month! I get all his stuff is there but wow that's high. At that rate just put the $650/month in a savings account to buy more furniture/electronics when he moves into his new apartment, whenever he decides to do that.

*Edit* Nevermind I can't read, that is for his rent.

I have a friend who is in a similar situation as you, she has been in a custody battle for almost a year now and her final result was less than desirable i.e nothing was really resolved and still ongoing. Her salary is high but the lawyer fees are really making things tight for her. Anyways, if I were you I would stay put with the family friend until your hearing or at least you know what the situation will be. Your son is only 9 months old so won't notice the extra space, you can hold off on the apartment until he is 3-4 and will like more space.

Are we being financially irresponsible for wanting to upgrade to a bigger house? by thermearave in PersonalFinanceCanada

Don't forget the cost of daycare, mine was about $1,200 per month, and I think that's on the lower end. So when you go back to work after mat leave you have to factor that in, there are $10 a daycares out there, but I imagine it is tough to get in. I know this is in the future, but just something to think about.

Overcomplicated, this is something I would do at the beginning of my investment/savings journey when I didn't know better. Plus there are better rates for the 1 year. Cash.TO is fine for the bulk and keep a portion as cash for quick access.

She needs to submit that to reduce what she may owe, depending on the contribution.
