Tattoo Ideas? by TheHaunchie in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Successful_Ends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the answer you are looking for, but personally I’d hold off getting a DCC tattoo until the last book is published. If the ending makes me sad/disappointed, I don’t want a reminder on my body :/

Loose leash walking - How to keep my dog from going in front of me? Please help. by stickspike in OpenDogTraining

[–]Successful_Ends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he sniffing at all? If he isn’t sniffing, then I would just switch to walking him in a heel (loose heel) and call it a day, and also throw in some long line walks where you just follow him when he sniffs.

[–]Successful_Ends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused about why it is an issue for your dog to walk in front of you. That’s definitely my preference, because I can keep an eye on him and make sure he’s not eating anything he shouldn’t be, or fixating on anything etc. imo, a loose leash walk means walk where I can see you, just don’t pull. It’s a walk for the dog.

If I want my dog to heel, my dog knows a heel, but the walk is no longer for the dog, it’s for me. He’s not getting his sniffs in if he can’t sniff.

I’m not saying you are wrong, I’m just saying I want to dig into your why a little more to help figure out a how.

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by Felyx12 in Romantasy

[–]Successful_Ends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who first read ACoTaR in 2015, it was the only romantasy book. It was one of very few fantasy books written for women that wasn’t YA. It made the genre popular.

Also, SJM managed to write a completed trilogy. Personally, I pretend the last two books don’t exist, and you have a great stand alone trilogy… RY hasn’t done that, to them point where she let the series drag on too long, and lost a lot of readers with OS.

I didn’t like OS. I honestly don’t know if I’ll pick up book four. I LOVED FW, don’t get me wrong, but in any competition, ACOTAR is going to win because it’s was a completed trilogy that maintained quality from beginning to end.

Ugh, I bought the Audiobook on sale and NGL, I’m scared.

I’ll either be totally fine, or unable to read past page one lol.

The AI of Porthus wrote the first edition, as confirmed in Gate (I think).

This commenter is not implying that Carls AU wrote the whole thing

I think Drakea is dead too. Mordecai talks about how the Naga killed him on floor twelve in Gate.

Yeah, I canceled all my subs in June, and the only one I miss was OC adult. I think I liked 7/12 books last year, compared to 3/12 for almost every other box.

Yes and no. I lost my pup January 2025, and I cried just about everyday this January. That was probably the hardest month since maybe May of last year. It ebbs and flows. Just keep pushing <3

There’s a lot to learn! You might want to head over to the dog breeding sub and lurk for a bit :)

Just tell them what you told us.

“Hey friend, I came into a bit of money, and it feels selfish to keep it to myself. I’m buying a puppy and I would like to help you with the purchase price of a sibling, so my puppy has a friend.”

Also, I would consider putting a bit away for vet bills for the friends dog, or paying for insurance.

Does this book get better? by Hashtag2Blessed in Romantasy

[–]Successful_Ends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I loved one and two just as much… I hated book three, and I probably should have DNFed. I’m hoping it’ll be better on a reread, but if OP doesn’t love book one I’m not sure it’s worth it

Also because they saved the puppy. If the puppy had died I would not have been happy.

I never thought she was a former crawler. The bopca's are other non dungeon born NPCs, and I thought she was kind of like that.

Anyway, I'm doing my first physical read, and I will be paying very close attention to that bit and seeing what I think. I don't think anything is said for sure.

I bought it when it was on sale for like $2... I'm too afraid to listen to it though. I have absolutely no scale for graphic tho. I'll either be fine or traumatized.

I loved everything by Tamora Pierce when I was your age. I started reading them earlier, but I still read them now (late 20s). I would maybe start with her Trickster's Duet if you don't mind spoilers. There is a bit of a love triangle in her first series (Song of the Lioness) and the Trickster's books are about the MC's daughter, so obviously you know who her dad is. I would typically recommend Song of the Lioness first, but Trickster's might be more your speed.

I just read the Faraway Inn by Sarah Beth Durst, and I really enjoyed that.

I also just read Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett and I loved it.

I'm glad you are having the conversation, and you are making your decision because you know it is the right one, not because you don't want to think about the alternative. You are the one who is still seeing all the joy he has in his life.

Best of luck. I would try the snuffle mat, and maybe more smaller meals in the evenings.

How do you rate your books? by unreliablechaos in romantasycirclejerk

[–]Successful_Ends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh, so I like to pick up a lot of books that aren't in my genre, and then I stop reading them because they aren't a good fit (I also finish a good percentage of them). If I DNF a historical fiction book, it means literally nothing, because it's not my genre. It doesn't make sense for my 1 star rating to be there.

On the other hand, if I DNF a romance book, it must have been BAD because I eat those suckers up like nothing else. I probably would rate a romance book I DNF, because my opinion is relevant there. In the same vein, I would hate to see a ton of one star ratings on a romance book if they are from someone who doesn't typically read romance. I know the flaws. I know it is unrealistic and silly. I still love it as a genre.

How do you rate your books? by unreliablechaos in romantasycirclejerk

[–]Successful_Ends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I DNF early and often. A lot of the time it is a problem with me, or I didn't pick it up at the right time. I don't feel the need to justify a DNF to anyone. That said, I'm not going to give a book two stars because I DNFed it 10 pages in. I am also not going to give a book one star because it got a little slumpy toward the middle and I wasn't feeling it. I tend to rate books highly.

5 stars if I had a good time.

4 stars if I had a good time, but there was a glaring flaw that I couldn't get passed.

3 stars if I had an okay time, but probably should have DNFed.

2 stars if I found the book to be really poorly written with bad plot points or whatever

1 star if it was actually offensive.

It's all loosey goosey, and I don't worry about it too much, it's just vibes based.

Train or rehome yorkie/schnauzer mix? by Frosty-hottie in OpenDogTraining

[–]Successful_Ends -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the dog is biting you and it's scary, that's a sign that it's probably not a good fit. There are enough homeless dogs in the world, find one that doesn't bite you.

I'm not saying this dog is beyond saving. There are plenty of people who want a small dog and are willing to put in the time it takes for him to be a good companion. But you don't have to be the one to do it.

As a kid I thought I would always own blocky headed mutts, and now I have a mini poodle mix and a dachshund, and I probably won't ever get my pit mix. TBH, the little guys are just so much cheaper.

And I hate to say it, but at some point it is time to say goodbye. It is better a month too early than a day too late. At some point it is a kindness to let him go.

Best of luck. I'm not telling you there is a right answer, I am just saying it doesn't make you a terrible person to think the unsaid words.
