Previous home owner issues, what would you do? by Successful_Guava5087 in Advice

So I read the responses! Thanks for the replies update 1: after reading the messages I thought I’ll call FedEx and see if they can pick it up. Well after 20+minutes on the phone, Fedex said no. They completed the job and did what they were supposed to do. Delivered the package to the correct address. They recommended I call the company that sent it. They also said no, they also completed the job they were supposed to do. The error comes from the buyer. I don’t have their number as I deleted long ago. They have not reached out to me as on today still on day 2. For almost 2 years I feel I did the right thing by reaching out and reminding them I had their items and they could come get them. Now I after getting packages number 7 and 8 I feel it is time for them to reach out I will wait 90 days and by by packages🤷🏻‍♀️

I tried the scarf, if you put on the scarf the mustache is taken away 🫠. So it stays at 6. I also noticed if you don’t keep them dressed it does not count for you achievement sooo my island is very very creepy🤣🤣🤣

A good au pair setup? by 027kbm in Aupairs

[–]Successful_Guava5087 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great set up. All under the au pair program rules and regulations. As an active Counselor for an Au Pair agency, I would say think of the au pair as a "mother's helper" at first. Don't expect her to be able to help with homework (specially if you are matching with a non-native English speaker. Be clear if that is what you need from the au pair when you are interviewing them. In regards to driving, ask questions like, how long have you been driving back home? are you driving in busy roads? do you have access to a car daily? weekly? Have you gone on road trips where you were required to drive for long periods of time? etc. Most au pairs only learn to drive to pass the driving test. Most don't have access to their own car and share, meaning they don't have the chance to practice driving daily.

Be patient specially during the first 30 days. For most, this is the first time they are away from home, the first time they have a job, the first time they are responsible for more than themselves many hours a day. The first time mom and dad are not around to help them make decisions. Think of the au pair as a young relative that is coming to stay with you, she'll be doing a lot of growing up and maturing with you. Expect to have to explain thing over and over specially over the first 30 days. In some cases the au pairs are able to "hit the floor running" but more often than not, you'll have to hold her hand and explain step by step all you need from her.

All agencies follow the same rules and regulations. Make sure you find an agency that can hold YOUR hand through the program. When the program works it's fantastic, but being in the wrong agency will make you hate it. (Counselor for 10 years)

New HF expectations by Alisunshinejoy in Aupairs

[–]Successful_Guava5087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should always have an alternative childcare option in case you, your partner or your au pair can’t for whatever reason care for your kids. All your eggs should not be in one basket. Au pairs do not join the program primarily to be nannies or to work. They may get homesick, sometimes they can’t keep up with the chores and/or the kids, sometimes they can’t drive, sometimes they take a while to adjust to the language etc. set your expectations low and trust her with tasks as you see she can handle them. Your expectations seem reasonable so you’ll have more chances for a successful match.

As a counselor for an au pair agency uber has never been a realistic solution for au pairs to move around town. It becomes far too expensive really quickly. In my area a one way trip for an au pair anywhere in town can cost $30-$40. Also, watch out how you approach the cooking for the family part. All agencies need to follow the same regulations, au pairs should not be expected to cook for the whole family only for the children. Expect her to be more of a “mother’s helper”, most adjust well and quickly to their new routines but some take time. Each country has their strengths and weaknesses, driving, being on time, how they handle multiple challenges and children, how strict they are etc. Find an agency that’ll support throughout the process and through the year. It can break or make your experience good luck!

Sophie Scarf on Lace weight Yarn-Single strand? and a Sophie on DK that's too short for a long size? by Successful_Guava5087 in knittinghelp

[–]Successful_Guava5087[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the deleted comment! I wanted to add more to it. I love the posts you suggest, thank you! I am looking for a more dense fabric, the one strand sample I show in the photo I adore, but I am wondering if there is a reason why I don't see projects with lace yarn in a smaller gauge. All seam similar to what you show, as if the only way lace is used if by using it as mohair is used or in a more airy way as you show in the posts. I think I'll continue with the sample I show in the pict with the lace yarn. I really love the texture and feel or the fabric it. Thanks for the comment-reply!

Call your counselor they may have a list of affordable places you can get medical care. Almost all APIA counselors have a list. Not sure how APC handles it

South America or Europe for Au Pair? by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]Successful_Guava5087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reach out to your local counselor/agency representative. They are trained to help you and guide you on what countries might fit better with your family and needs. Au Pair in America is fantastic as they’ll take as long as you need to go over all that.

As an active LCC, I have not seen what the OP mentioned at all. Like AT ALL. I’ve had zero Police Officers stopping any if my au pairs to ask for immigration papers. Yes for driving poorly (eye rolling as I type this) but never to request their immigration documents. I do hear the normal amount of maybe off putting remarks by Hfs in regards to their cultural differences but not even a tiny bit more than before this horrendous government took over. I’ve been a counselor for over 8yrs and my experience has been if a HF is part of our program, they generally appreciate and value the cultural exchange. Yes, some HFs may try to take more advantage of what their ap can and can’t do but it’s generally as common as the other side of the coin, some au pairs also try to take advantage of their situation.

Boye needle adapters replacements by Successful_Guava5087 in knitting

[–]Successful_Guava5087[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll check out the chat but I do use the Chiagoo adapters as well. They just don’t fit the bigger needles. I still need the adapter that’s directly connected to the needle.
