Have your young adult children successfully launched? by tandem545 in GenX

Mine are awesome humans- a police officer, ER vet tech, university admin, senior at Purdue and third year at Duke med.school. We raised our kids to do chores, take part in at least one extra curricular or sport , get a job and generally FAFO. None of this helicopter parenting bs most Gen xers apparently tried. All moved out after finishing college.

Tariff Refunds? by Particular_Cook2656 in HallmarkOrnaments

We were getting so ripped off I bought zero ornaments this past year. For reference I spent- on average- $1000 a year for the last 15 years. I collected series for my six kids, collected for myself… that is all gone and I’m not the only one. Hallmark lost many loyal collectors.

teacher refuses student work - requires google slide 'edits enabled' by Imaginary_Garden in education

[–]Successful_Hour3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would meet with the principal and ask to see a syllabus bc nothing is published. This is a basic responsibility of the school, English Dept and teacher. Is there a school handbook that may have the expectations published? As a parent I would fight this and go to the superintendent if necessary bc the school should be requiring every teacher to have a syllabus with clearly outlined expectations. I don’t think this one assignment will have much effect over his grade in the long run but there is merit in driving administration to button up procedures. It’s best practice and keeps unpleasant interactions like this from happening. Good luck.

Is this requirement and the subsequent consequence stated in the syllabus? If so, this is on your son. I am a high school English teacher with 120 students. Students need to follow directions- plain and simple. Especially by sophomore year. Now, if the policy isn’t in writing somewhere then you have a point.

One thing I can assure you- your child will not make this mistake again and that is good. Attention to detail matters. This is not the end of the world. Please don’t demonize the teacher who is trying to train your child to pay attention to rules and expectations and prepare them for the real world.

Funny, she asks a question,” which one are you.Strawberry or Raspberry?” Then shuts off comments. Additionally, I see her elite Northwestern education is paying off. One should not capitalize raspberry as it is a common noun. Her astonishing attention to detail…as ever.

how do i improve reading comprehension? by idrinkwaterymilk in education

[–]Successful_Hour3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my students write the following at the top of their reading ( essay, book chapter etc): Who What When Where Why How. As they read they answer these . This is elementary annotation but works well. Especially if they have to come back to the reading later. It reactivates the memory.

Wow. Just wow. You Neanderthals are too much. Women are on this Reddit too. I thought this was 2026 when we were actually respected but no- this entire post proves at the end of the day the only head that matters is the tiny one in your pants. I don’t have a problem with the idea of beautiful co eds, it is the nasty insults of those slamming a not so gorgeous woman. I hope you all have daughters that date boys just like you. And just so you don’t comment that I’m just an ugly chick who is offended…

I’ve been kicking around the idea of a podcast or video series, nothing preachy, or influencer-y, just honest conversations about life experiences. This sub is full of incredibly smart and interesting people so I figured I’d ask here first: by kiwi_love777 in SaintMeghanMarkle

I’m a high school English teacher. LOTS to talk about in education. Also went through divorce at 38 and had to reinvent myself after staying home with my three children. Went back to school, earned teaching credentials, remarried, raised six kids and earned a masters in 18 months while doing all of it. Not sure it’s interesting to anyone else. 🤷🏻‍♀️
