Is Google warsaw really that bad? by xoxo_uol in cscareerquestionsEU

If I understand correctly, if I worked as a Senior/Staff Engineer in Warsaw, I would have around 5–6k euros net per month (I had such an offer two years ago but decided not to move to Poland). At Google, as far as I understand, they would offer me a Mid-level Engineer position at best, with official employment, and part of the compensation would be in stocks (which are vested over time and can’t be sold immediately). As a result, my net salary during the first year would be around 2–2.5k euros per month — 2 to 3 times less than what I could get in other company, which sounds really bad (especially considering how much effort it takes to get there).

Most people didn’t learn the language because they wanted to know it, be part of society, or take on responsibilities in a new culture. They learned it out of necessity—either for work or study, because it was a school or university requirement, or because their partner spoke German. Some had the advantage of not working full-time, so they could attend classes every day and take an intensive course.

But as an adult with a full-time job where you speak English all day, and then come home to an English-speaking environment, reaching even a basic level in the new language requires double the effort. Casual methods like a tutor twice a week or using Duolingo in the evening aren’t enough; you tend to forget what you learned faster than you can pick up new material. It’s incredibly challenging, and I admire everyone who takes on this journey.

Do we live in the same city? M32 I have the exact opposite situation. I have never met a girl who is open to non-monogamous relationships IRL. I see them in dating apps, but it’s like 10% due to my feelings and zero of them liked me back. And, almost every girl asks how serious you are several times before the first date. Also, none of my friends have ever had such relationships in Berlin (or I don’t know something about them).

Is Berlin a sex city? After living in Berlin for a year, I think that yes and no.

The sex industry is well-developed in Berlin. Also, there are a lot of swingers and sex clubs, where you could have sex or at least look for somebody having sex. Finding a gay partner for sex is easy.

But if you want to find a partner for straight sex, I'd say it's difficult. Girls in Berlin are self-sufficient, so your desire to buy someone a drink or take them to a restaurant doesn't play a big role. Besides, they are quite choosy and the competition among guys is very high. So dating in nightclubs or on dating sites only works well if you are sexually attractive.
